Editorial Review:
Amazon.com Review: Pilot Tucker Case has a weakness--well, Tuck really has two--and the combination of drinking and sex in the cockpit of the pink Mary Jean Cosmetics Learjet puts him on the front page of papers all over the planet. But he finds another job with a mysterious employer--someone with a brand-new Lear 45-- who's willing to pay Tuck generously and ask no questions about his record. The jet and job are on Alualu, a speck in the Pacific Ocean, and Tucker has nowhere else to go. But first he has to get to Alualu, and once there, he faces a hurricane, Shark People, atypical missionaries, and boredom ... and the responsibilities assigned to him by Capt. Vincent Bennidetti, U.S. Air Force, deceased bomber pilot and present-day deity of the Shark People.
Product Description:
Take a wonderfully crazed excursion into the demented heart of a tropical paradise—a world of cargo cults, cannibals, mad scientists, ninjas, and talking fruit bats. Our bumbling hero is Tucker Case, a hopeless geek trapped in a cool guy's body, who makes a living as a pilot for the Mary Jean Cosmetics Corporation. But when he demolishes his boss's pink plane during a drunken airborne liaison, Tuck must run for his life from Mary Jean's goons. Now there's only one employment opportunity left for him: piloting shady secret missions for an unscrupulous medical missionary and a sexy blond high priestess on the remotest of Micronesian hells. Here is a brazen, ingenious, irreverent, and wickedly funny novel from a modern master of the outrageous.

I have slammed two of the author's previous books (only bought the first, my wife got me two without finding out what I thought of the first one). This is what I thought I was getting when I bought the first one. It is a light, amusing read with interesting characters. I am a hard grader so three means worth reading. It is indeed wacky; a much overused and abused term used on books covers far too often. A book that is fun to read and is built around Pacific cargo cults has potential from the start. But so did the other two I read and they didn't come through. This one does.

Chris Moore is in the wrong field he should be writing screenplays. Although Hollywood might not be ready for his intelligence or dark humor. He makes fun of everything including greedy religious cults that prey on the little people. This story also has heart. The characters are so well written they fly off the page and beg you to keep reading.
Plot
Its about a great guy named Tucker he is just like Sam Malone on Cheers, except he still is a severe alcoholic. He has a wonderful job flying jets for Mary Jean Cosmetics until he has sex with a hooker while driving the plane and crashes it. His long suffering boss doesn't throw him in jail like any normal person would do. She gets him a job making 6 figures in the Micronesian Islands flying for missionaries. It may sound too good to be true and it is... but thats all I can tell you. The characters are the kinda weirdos that you ride the city bus/subway with. Heck,he even threw in a sunglass wearing talking fruit bat and a WW2 Flying Ace. I will warn you, he does drop the f bomb alot but if you can overlook that, you will love it.
If he does makes this into a movie here is who is who my dream cast would be
Tucker - Simon Baker
Mary Jean - Carrie Fischer
The high Priestess - Tea Leoni
Dr. Curtis - John Slatterly(from mad men)
malnick -cheech marin
Vincent the flying ace - John Cleese
kimi Tommy chong

This isn't one of my favorite Christopher Moore books. It starts off really slow and a bit confusing at first. I spent the first half of the book trying to fit the pieces together and going back to reread some things to make more sense out of them. After the first half of the book thoughm it picks up pace and becomes more interesting. Don't let this be the first of his books you read as it might turn you off of his books. I'd start off with Lamb, or You Suck.

this book had me laughing out loud in bed while reading. I highly recommend this for any one stuck in a reading rut. Chris Moore truly has done it from the all aspects and its quite a great mystery and good story too!
