Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I don't understand the negativity
Others have summarized the plot, so I'll just say that I wasn't sure if I'd like this book when I picked it up. I found it to be kind of charming, actually.

Re: some of the complaints I've seen: I didn't find the heroine fickle, I found her confused - she was thrown one curve ball after another and her emotions were all over the place. No, the sex scenes weren't explicit. So, if that's what people are looking for, this book isn't it. I didn't find it poorly written, either; a few awkward sentences appeared throughout the book but that's what the editor is for (I'm guessing the author was typing pretty fast to get the ideas out. It happens to everyone).

I really did find the book cute and interesting. It's a historical romance; people will act differently than they would nowadays (obviously). I liked the little additions of history (like the Andalusian horse near the beginning). The characters were likeable and occasionally frustrating with their miscommunication, but that's part of the fun.

Would I recommend it? Sure, considering I read it upon someone else's recommendation. If you want a cute, light read - give it a try.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Unbelievably Romantic
I couldn't put this book down. I wasn't sure which character to side with, but in the end you can't help but love both of them. You feel sad when they are, and happy when things are going well for them. Cathy Maxwell is obviously a romantic. Her writing shows how much she loves to write and tell the story. I am not one for the graphic sex scenes when I read a story. Cathy Maxwell got everything just right. She doesn't give every graphic detail. The book is about the romance, and all of the good and bad that comes with it. This is the first novel I've read by her, and I will most definitely read more of her books. I couldn't wait to find out how everything turned out in the end. Loved the book. Would highly recomend.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This was a likable interesting read.
Like some of the other reviewers that liked the book versing those that did not, my vote was it was a good and interesting read. There could have been a little more romance, but it seemed Gillian was too busy denying her love for her husband because of the hurt he caused her immediately after their wedding by confessing that he loved his mistress. And the Earl, Ransom, who needed his wife after finding that he had made the mistake of his life by foolishly believing his mistress was sincere with her feelings. Ransome was discovering that he was falling in love with the wife he had treated so badly and each of the characters, as in all romance novels, sufferered their own doubts, which prevented them from relaying their true feelings.

The the diverse reviews just goes to show why so many recommendations I have relied on, left me disappointed and others have been just right. It simply depends on what you like and perhaps what emotion/mood you are in at the time you delve into the story.

To me it was enjoyable and different.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Brian has matured and become a man that his wife is willing to give a second change too....
This was interesting twist of the wayward husband who forgets he has a wife until he needs her...

Brian Ranson was a third son of a Earl until his 2 older brother's die and he finds himself next in line to become the Earl. Brian comes home after fighting in the war to find out that his mistress had a child with his father and left him a terrible orphanage to die. Brian needs help with the child and to get his dream job - so he turns to wife. Gillian loved Brian and dove into their marriage with hopes and dreams only to have them crushed by Brian announcing on their wedding night that he had been forced to marry her and that he has a mistress who he loves and then he left for war. Now years later Brian needs Gillian's help --- she gives him 30 days and then plans seek a divorce and her freedom... I liked the book, a solid 4 stars by this author, Enjoy!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A complete waste of time....
The back cover sounded great. The "hate into love" premise promised sparkling wit complete with biting dialogue between hero and heroine. I brewed a pot of coffee and settled in for a nice read. Unfortunately, I could not have been more wrong. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have grabbed the scotch bottle and poured a good stiff drink, and then another, and then a few more.

Nothing about this story was believable. Gillian, the heroine, was overly eager to forgive Brian, the hero who supposedly broke her heart by leaving her high and dry the morning after their wedding four years previously.

In a very short space of time (and we are talking hours here not days), she is willing to welcome him back into her heart and her bed. The hero Brian is more than willing to use Gillian for his own purposes while all the time trying to convince Gillian of his undying devotion. Every time Brian disappointed (which he did with regularity), Gillian would get angry and swore she was done, and then just as quickly forgive and fall back into love/lust. It just didn't ring true.

I kept waiting to be drawn in and captivated. It never happened. I finally resorted to skimming and skipping just to see how it would all wrap up, and even then, I felt cheated.

While Gillian may be forever going back to Brain, I think I will wait to check the reviews before buying this author's next one.
