Product Description:

How to tell if a man is an unrepentant rogue:

1. He has no patience for frivolous debutantes
2. He kisses you after a single dance
3. He makes you forget yourself and kiss him back . . .

After years away from London, Captain Bennett Wolfe is back—and alive, much to Society's surprise. Having been presumed dead, this rugged adventurer is now much sought after by every marriage-minded young woman . . . but Bennett only has eyes for the intriguing Lady Phillipa Eddison.

Phillipa would rather read than flirt, but she does know a thing or two about proper courtship rituals. A gentleman does not kiss a lady senseless, and he certainly does not bring his pet monkey when he comes calling. Lady Phillipa's ever been so scandalized . . . or tempted. She simply must teach Bennett some manners—before she succumbs to temptation as wild as the man who offers it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Lacks substance
I'm an avid reader of histoical romance and would have loved to live in the Regency period or at least been a fly on the wall during that period. That being said, I have read numerous books by Suzanne Enoch for many years and I have to say I'm disappointed in her latest novel. To this reader, the book doesn't have any substance that captured my interest. However, I will admit that the book does flows easily.

If your looking for to get started in reading about the historical romance, I would suggest start with her earlier books.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not adventurous enough for me
I am afraid I haven't got a lot of positive things to say about this book. I found it boring and tedious. I felt plot was undeveloped with many loose ends. Neither of the main characters stood out and the adventurers club...well, that's something of nothing. For Enoch at her best, read her older books like the "lessons in love" series.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Is S.E. losing her touch?
Where was the chemistry between the main characters and the sexual tension? There wasn't anything really interesting about them when they were together. Even though the hero fell too quickly and unbelievably in love with Phillipa, i did like him but Phillipa... i don't know if i liked her, i mean, i did not not like her but she just didnt seem like the type for Wolfe and not because of her lack of beauty but i don't know if they have any common interest...I did like John though but felt maybe he and Phillipa were a better match. Phillipa and John's scenes were more natural, i felt, while Phillipa and Wolfe's scenes felt forced. I just kept thinking John will get jealous of seeing Phillipa with someone else and finally see that it was she not Olivia, all along that he loved since they had a lot of common interests and whatnot and that Phillipa might have a secret crush on John but had no hopes of getting his affections since he was hypnotized by Olivia's beauty.
I have read all of S.E.'s historical novels- all! But her last few books have been disappointing (starting with the SIN series), where is the author of those first few books that i love so much and made me a quick loyal fan? The book had potential and so much promise (especially with a monkey in it!) but it failed. This doesnt mean, however, that i will stop reading her books... i'm hoping that her next book will be better, especially since I like the Duke from the Adventurer's club (so i hope he gets his own book). But this book was just an OK read for me.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not your average hero, but I loved him!
This book is a terrific read. Not your average Regency. I loved the hero, heroine, and the pet monkey. There is a lot more story than sex in this book(although those are very hot), and Enoch will hook you at once. Bennett is an adventurer who falls in love with a bookish lady named Phillipa. I loved her nickname. They called her Flip. She turns out to be quite spunky with a lot of courage, more than anyone thinks her capable. At the same time, while Bennett is going through an upheaval in his life that could cost him everything, and while trying to get revenge on the man who stole his journals, wrote a book taking all the credit, Bennett falls in a big way for Phillipa, and she becomes his priority in life. I really loved how Bennett found the ridiculous rules of London tiresome after being in the jungle, but he puts up with it to court Flip. I just recently discovered Ms. Enoch, and I'm in the process of reading all her books.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Back cover sounds great, but it just didn't deliver.
I thought the story line sounded very promising when I ordered the book. The first part of the book was actually pretty decent: likeable hero and heroine, definite problem that needs to be solved, instant attration etc. I started having a hard time moving past certain parts of the book. I can't reconcile a straightforward young woman who would advise the hero where he can find a "light-skirt to slake his lust" with would also faint when he brings her red roses. Before you know it, Flip (the heroine) morphs into someone who sneaks around at night so that she can sleep with the hero. The heroine is supposed to be an original blue-stocking, but at some points seems more like a silly nitwit who only can focus on what type of flowers the hero can bring her at different points in their courtship. The hero started to annoy me after a while also. At times he seemed sensitive and sweet (ie- being the mother to a little monkey) and at other times a complete idiot. I can't say it was a horrible book, but it will be making its way quickly to the donate pile.
