Editorial Review:
Product Description: The second title in the Storyteller's Series, Ladron de la mente is a surreal and supernatural story for high-beginning and low-intermediate students, written in simple Spanish for learners of Spanish. Written by respected author Elias Miguel Munoz, this inviting and inexpensive paperback can be used as early as second semester, first-year Spanish. As the story unfolds, students soon learn what happens to a thief who steals something other than property. The essence of the story has not changed since the first edition, yet Ladron de la mente now features material that is even more readable and thought provoking. Numerous subtle changes were made as well as some major ones.

This book is not great literature, or even great "lightweight" fiction, but as the other reviewer notes, it is brief and fast-moving enough to keep (high-level beginner) learners of Spanish engaged. Having taught college level Spanish for 15 yrs, I know that such material, that students can read for fun, is a very important resource in helping learners advance: it is more fun than a textbook and less difficult than "real" native speaker fiction. My main complaints are that its portrayal of gender roles is somewhat conservative and reductionist, and that its representation of the culture of Spain is not very accurate (characters are basically like North Americans who are speaking Spanish). I'm sure that most readers, however, would not pick this up. In general, this book is much better than nothing.

This a great resource for teachers of Spanish. The chapters are short yet interesting. The characters and their actions make students want to keep reading. The timeliness of the subject matter (computers/technology) combined with the timeless themes of love, theft, betrayal, mystery and magic make this bok a valuable teaching tool.
