Product Description:
Best-selling author Larry J. Sabato once again brings together the nation's most perceptive analysts and shrewdest observers of American politics to analyze our most recent election: the historic election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States. This revealing new book by Larry Sabato and his team of experts contains exciting coverage and trenchant commentary on the most stunning election of our time. Peeling back the layers of the political, social, and demographic trends that helped thrust Barack Obama into the Oval Office, the authors of this book toss aside conventional wisdom about 2008 and substitute thoughtful, deeper - and until now, ignored - interpretations of the events and environment that elected our new president. Features - Includes contributed chapters from some of the foremost analysts and scholars who had a front row seat for the campaigns and election, including Justin Sizemore, Rhodes Cook, Alan Abramowitz, Bruce Larson, Michael Toner, Diana Owen, Jeff Gulati, Michael Cornfield, Alex Theodoridis, and Susan MacManus. Each author presents different perspectives on the results, and the resulting mosaic gives readers a comprehensive outlook on the election. - Provides complete and engaging analysis of the most important issues and events leading to Barack Obama's election, including the political environment for Republicans, the impact of federal election law, state and party rules, the conventions, the impact of "traditional" and "new" media, and the use of new technologies. The authors avoid trendy, tired, and overused political commentary and instead focus on pragmatic research and analysis with practical applications for the reader. - Features original chapters written by Larry Sabato, a nationally renowned election scholar and commentator. - Connects the reader with additional sources of information and opinion beyond the content of the book. - Offers as much for the classroom as it does for the casual reader. Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - AND A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER SHALL LEAD THEM...
The least qualified of all US presidents. Never held office other than being a junior senator WITHOUT any CEO experience. By the way, what the hell is a community organizer and what does that have to do with leading the worlds super power at a time of the most complex period in recent memory? And there isn't enough space to describe his radical leanings & friends, as well as being a MARXIST. They plaster his picture all over the place like it was the second coming, despite all of his failures to be qualified for this office.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Comprehensive Analysis of an Easy Winner
Larry Sabato has compiled a marvelously documented book from a stellar field of political analysts, documenting the not so unpredictable victory of Barrack Obama in last fall's Presidential election.

Certainly, it was historical in its unprecedented achievement; however, after the failed Presidency of George W. Bush buried the Republicans to certain defeat in '08, the actual outcome of the election was a forgone conclusion. McCain never had a chance; Obama had become a rock star long before both conventions took place last summer, appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone with more regularity than the Rolling Stones, themselves.

Certainly, this country was ready for a change, and the charismatic Obama was brilliant in his campaign rhetoric. The only question that remains to be answered is whether ObamaNation is going to solve the economic challenges for this country; or if the hype-machine is merely an illusion.

Only time will tell, but time is fast running out. This nation can't afford a weak, socialistic regime screwing the system up. No teleprompter will provide the results; it's got to be the man himself.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Book Club Obama
I am facilitating a Book Club Review on this book. Educators who are politically minded are taking the opportunity with Larry Sabato's book to read, educate and conduct discussion through email and luncheons.
I appreciate Amazon was able to quickly process my transaction and will use them again for future book reviews. If NEA has a discount, I'll be utilizing that feature as well.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sabato hits homerun with "Year of Obama"
This is by far the most thoughtful political book about Obama's meteoric rise to power. The work includes entries from some of the best minds in electoral politics (rising stars and established scholars). It is a must read for thoughtful people who want to understand how Obama pulled off his unlikely victory and what it means for the future of electoral politics in America.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Academic look back at the election
Each chapter in this book takes up a different aspect of Obama's election and why it occurred. It is full of useful information and analysis for students and politics junkies while remaining readable and interesting enough for all. Recommended for people who wish to revisit the events of 2008 or to learn more about American electoral politics.
