Editorial Review:

Product Description:
It’s true what they say: Money changes everything. And in Linda Howard’s red-hot novel Burn, the changes come fast, furious, and filled with the kind of sexy suspense, heart-stopping romance, beautiful people, and risky business guaranteed to give you the most bang for your buck.

Money certainly changes Jenner Redwine’s life when she wins a lottery jackpot. But it also costs her plenty: Her father rips her off and disappears, her fortune-hunting boyfriend soon becomes her ex, and friends-turned-freeloaders give her the cold shoulder when she stops paying for everything.

Flush with new money, Jenner can’t imagine ever finding a place in the world of the wealthy. Seven years later, though, she’s rubbing elbows with the rich, despite the fact she still feels like a party crasher. Luckily she finds an ally–and a guide to the rarefied realm of privilege–in shy, kind-hearted heiress Sydney Hazlett, who quickly becomes Jenner’s confidante and surrogate sister.

When Sydney invites Jenner on a charity cruise aboard a luxury liner, Jenner reluctantly agrees. But while she’s expecting–and dreading–two weeks of masquerade balls, art auctions, and preening glitterati, what she gets is more like a Hitchcock movie than a Love Boat episode. Taken hostage by a menacing stranger, Jenner must cooperate in a mysterious cloak-and-dagger scheme–or else. With nowhere to run, and with Sydney’s life as well as her own at risk, Jenner is drawn into a game of dizzying intrigue and harrowing danger. But as her panic gives way to exhilaration, and fear of her captor turns to fascination, Jenner rediscovers feelings she hasn’t had in years–and realizes she’s found a life worth living. If she survives.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Burn
Winning the lottery changed Jenner Redwine's life forever. She learned quickly that money doesn't buy happiness. Seven years later, Jenner has a new life that she's still trying to fit into. When she and her new friend, Heiress Sydney Hazlett, embark on a charity cruise, Jenner isn't expecting much more than dinners and dancing and spending lots of money for a good cause. What she gets is kidnapped by Cael Traylor and his team and thrust into danger while she tries to keep herself and Syd alive as a madman plots to make this the last cruise Jenner and everyone else on the ship takes.

Jenner and Cael's romance is as tumultuous as the sea they are sailing on in Burn. While they don't seem very compatible at first, they quickly become a good match. Jenner gives as good as she gets. The best part of Burn is the witty banter between Cael and Jenner. Their constant arguing becomes endearing and fun. Burn is a good story, but not riveting. The plot becomes a bit predictable. I couldn't help feeling cheated at the end as well. I wanted more detail regarding Cael and Jenner's new-found relationship and I felt as though the back story on several other characters was missing. While not one of my favorite Linda Howard novels, Burn is an easy and entertaining read.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A disappointment
I love Linda Howard's books. I always read them. This book was a another disappointment. The plot was not plausible. I did not develop any interest in the characters with the exception of Jenner. Some of Linda's past books have been keepers. Ones you can read again, and ones you cannot put down. This book is neither a keeper or one you cannot put down.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - it's all in the dialogue
Wanted to give it a 3 1/2 star review, but couldn't get it to work. No one does dialogue like Linda Howard. No ones does sensual tension like Linda Howard. Was the story completely satisfying? No. But it's a hell of a lot better than the crap that is out there. I am not expecting Ms. Howard to give me the same kind of story she wrote for decades. I expect her to grow and change. I expect her to entertain me - which she did very well. I loved the dialogue. Laughed myself silly. I liked this heroine and hero. I wanted more of them and hopefully, maybe in the future I will get it. This could be the start of a great series.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Burn
I almost gave up on this book, but was glad I didn't! It was very hard to get into it as the beginning was very boring and laborious.
After reading the entire book, I understand it was setting Jenner's background. But still, it should have been done differently as I fear many readers would not continue. However, once getting through the beginning, it was one of Linda Howard's best books. The plot was intriguing, the characters were dynamic, the chemistry was hot. I have already read this book 2 times (after skipping the beginning, the second time.)
I highly recommend. as it is a great read!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - An OK novel
Linda Howard is a favorite of mine, but this novel was not up to par. The prologues was completely unnecessary and in fact we see the exact same scenes later in the book. The story could have started from CHapter 1. I agree with other reviewers that its annoying to know what every character was thinking. Plus Cael's team was so large that I kept getting them confused. Only a handful had developed personalities. I hope the next ones are better. My favorite is All the Queen's Men.
