Product Description: THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY OF THE STAR WARS GALAXY BEGINS HERE. . . .
After a violent civil war and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis–and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.
In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo’s turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it’s only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.
Though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo’s corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest–and life as he knows it–to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order . . . and devastate the entire galaxy.

I'll start by saying that I have read nearly all of the Star Wars books. And of them all this has to be one of the slowest books of all.
There are three stories going on throughout the book and while they are constantly flipping around, it is very easy to follow.
The first one is Luke and his son, Ben, who are off to try to find out why Jacen Solo became Darth Caedus. This was not bad as Luke tries to learn some of the Force techniques Jacen used in the Legacy of The Force series from the people who taught it to him.
The second story, which I liked the most had Jaina Solo, Tahiri, Jag Fel, and a couple of others trying to capture a Jedi (and later liberate him after he is arrested) who has somehow gone insane. Instead they capture another Jedi who has the same illness. And bring him to the temple for observation.
The third story was the one I was most disappointed in. Han and Leia go to Kessel, where Lando has a business, to find out why the planet is ravaged by earthquakes. This part of the story seemed like something off of the Discovery Channel. Honestly, I don't even understand why this story was in the book as it served no purpose other than to give Han and Leia something to do.
It was nice to see some of the old characters in the book, like Wedge Antilles. I also liked how Luke is showing his age by being more like Obi-Wan Kenobi than he used to be. But overall when I finished the book, it seems that it was written with the sole purpose of setting up the next one. This is really evident when Luke and Chief of State Natasi Daala come to an agreement that Luke has to go into exile for 10 years and the Jedi Order is left in control of Kenth Hamner and restrictions are placed on the Jedi Knights.
Hopefully, this will get better as the Sith are supposed to begin appearing in the next book.

I was looking forward to reading this new series, but Outcast was a big disappointment. I thought the characters were a little irritating and the plot was disjointed and unclear. I might try the next book just to see if it is any better, but I wont expect too much.

I've been a big fan of the Star Wars books for several years, and I'm excited to see this new series of books.
In this exciting debut to the series, Grand Master Jedi Luke Skywalker has been banished from Coruscant by Natasi Dalaa for ten years. Luke has been banished for failing to recognize and take action against Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side. Jacen eventually became Darth Caedus, and his fall caused a great civil war in the galaxy. Determined to learn what caused Jacen's fall, Luke and his son Ben have begun their exile by journeying to the planet Dorin. Luke hopes to learn from the native Kel Dors what caused Jacen's turn. But, once there, Luke and Ben discover that the Kel Dors have many secrets of their own.
But Luke's exile is only the first step of action against the Jedi. Other Jedi knights now must have observers accompany them and an influential Jedi named Valin Horn suffers a psychotic break. These events have cast a pall over the entire Jedi order.
Meanwhile, Han Solo and Leia have been summoned by Lando Calrissian to the planet Kessel. Lando owns a profiable mining operation on the planet, but something mysterious is occurring below the surface; something that could destroy Lando, Han, Leia, and the rest of the planet.
I found this book to be full of action and very well-written. The story is very good and the author provides glimpses into the past to keep readers up to speed with the characters. It's fun to read about old favorites Luke, Leia and Han roaming the galaxy again. I've read many of the previous Star Wars novels, and I'd rate this one as one of the best. I'm eagerly anticipating reading book two of the series.
I give this book my highest recommendation. Star Wars fans will surely enjoy this great beginning to an exciting new series of adventures.

Nice start to the series.. would have liked a bit more action. The Han and Leia story is interesting but really off subject. Nice start though.

I never thought that they could make me dislike how they were writing the star wars novels, but sadly I'm wrong after reading this new book I'm more determined to just reread the previous novels and try and forget that these ever came out. I can't say to much about the story because I know for sure because of my disdain for how it went I would give out to many spoilers for people to like. The things I will say is how there doing the jedi order and Luke Skywalker story arc leaves me with much disgust for this new story arc series. Am I saying that it's a badly written book?, no but I've been reading the star wars books from when they first came out until the finish of the Yuuzhan Vong novels and feel that they just seem to be deteriorating the characters in the star wars universe. I mean look at the recent story arc about Jacen Solo, I've been the reading the novels from since they had him as a young baby until his early years as a jedi and for him to meet that kind of end really put quite an awful taste in my mouth, and now it seems there going to do worse to the characters I've grown to love. So myself I say to other star wars fans who've been reading these novels from the early years forget these new horrors and stay with the early and much loved novels of yesteryear...
