Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A weak addition to this series
Ashley O'Ballivan and Jack McCall are the latest in the Stone Creek series featuring siblings Brad, Olivia, Melissa and Ashley. Jack and Ashley had an intense very short affair when Jack, a man of mystery, was called out on a job and didn't come back or call for half a year. He is now very ill with a mystery disease inflicted upon him by his arch enemy and in his delirium wants to recuperate at Stone Creek and Ashley's Bed and Breakfast.

After Jack's fever subsides, he realizes that the drug runner that is after him could harm Ashley and her family. So Jack has to leave again. Ashley and Jack love each other for always and forever, but her brother Brad and brother-in-law Tanner get in the act and Jack finally ends up back in his old life before he became a mercenary.

The story is sweet, but Ashley often comes across as a bit weak and whiny. Jack is a strong determined individual, yet he pulls away when he thinks he is going to die from his mysterious illness. This isn't a bad entry into the series, but certainly not the strongest. And the author appears to be setting up the final romance with Melissa O'Ballivan, so there is certain to be one more book featuring the O'Ballivan clan!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - OK, but a little short
Have you noticed, in both the last 2 series, the books featuring the women are short with less character development? The books featuring the men are longer and have a lot more to them. There is a lot that is glossed over -- the angst that Ashley had over her mother is previously is only superficially dealt with here -- and the mother is conveniently dead. I read it for the link to other books in the series, but this was like all of the books featuring women in the leading role, too short to do the subject justice.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of her best in quite a while
I like LLM books and buy every one that comes out, but I don't like them all equally. Some have been a disappointment, actually (the Creed trilogy for example). Others have been pretty good. At Home in Stone Creek, however, is the best I've read from her in a long while. It truly stands out from the others she's written lately. It was a wonderful mix of family, reconnecting with family, a little suspense, and a great romance. A very sweet, emotional and well-developed romance (no stereotypical misunderstanding that tears the couple apart, but instead an emotional and mature reason for the distance).

Of all the LLM books I've read (I haven't read them all-there are so many on her backlist) The Last Chance Cafe remains my favorite, but I have to say this one comes awfully close to that one for me.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A Home in Stone Creek. It's rich and romantic.
