What a wonderful story. I thought it might be strange to read a book that was all in the form of letters, but the story unfolds and the characters are so well developed that you feel like they are real. The writing is witty, makes you chuckle to yourself. At the same time, there are serious topics undertaken and a historical story told. Wonderful, must read!

I was not sure about this book at first. The letters were tedious at first and I was about to give up on this book, but I finally read one that hooked me into finding out what happens next. By the time I was a quarter-way thought I was vested in what would happened next. Halfway through I could not put this book down without thinking about the people in this book.

I typically do not care for stories told strictly through correspondence; however, this book changed my mind. This was written in such a way that I could fully picture life on Guernsey and fell in love with the characters almost instantly. While there were some sad moments, as there will be during wartime, the book had an overall happy tone. The ending was fitting, but I still wanted more. It was a hard book to put down.

Enjoyed this book and learned about issues during the war that affected everyone, but not really written about.

This is such a great read! A fascinating story. full of wit and wisdom, told in the form of letters back and forth from a wonderful collection of people in the post-WWII era. If you don't remember or didn't live through this time, it is a great history lesson as well as a stellar use of time. If you do remember the time, it is a worthwhile reminder of events and people that should not be forgotten.
