I could not help thinking as I read this book that the author must have had someone else write this for her. The writing feels so different from the rest of the series. It was a struggle to get through it. It seems to have lost the Sookie character along with the wit and charm of the previous books. I mistakenly read the next book in the series "From Dead to Worse" out of sequence, and that book was more like the earlier ones. This one was either just a quickly written clunker, or Ms. Harris had some help. That being said, I have enjoyed reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels and would recommend them.

All Together Dead is the sixth book in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries. Again, Harris doesn't disappoint, although as the books progress, it seems that Harris is writing more and more with the hope the SouthernVampire Mysteries get turned into a blockbuster juggernaut not unlike the Harry Potter Series. Our heroine, Sookie Stackhouse, continues her long and arduous descent into the supernatural world which seems to grow larger and larger with each installation. Stop reading here if you haven't read books one through five because because I wouldn't want to deprive readers of the taking that journey with our heroine. First there were vampires, then there were shapeshifters, and then came the faeries, who want to become angels, and then the goblins, and now we enter, as they say in the Twilight Zone, another dimension...
The theory goes that hey, if you can believe in vampires , then you can believe that the world is larger than what we may have previously believed it to be. And in this larger world, those misfits previously thought to be just crazy and undesirable might just be the most popular belle in the ball. In the human world our Sookie was a nobody - just a barmaid with no college education who was constantly being either looked down upon or groped by the patrons of her place of employment. In the supernatural world, her dance card is always full, the most powerful beings fall for her and someone is always willing to take a bullet or an arrow for our heroine. It is no wonder that Sookie begins to feel more loyal for her undead friends. Few humans have treated her well. Her gift is viewed as despicable and downright rude. She herself calls it a disability during the beginnings of her story. Human ignorance and intolerance create nothing but destruction and disaster. Never mind that the vampires' code of conduct can be equally appalling and cruel, or that they look at humans as food and hired help. Now more than ever, Sookie is beginning to think like the supes. She feels an obligation to protect them and save them, sometimes at the expense of humans who get cross in the crossfire.
It is an interesting twist to Sookie's character. I am looking forward to reading the next installation to see how far she goes down this road.

Sookie deals with problems for the vamps and weres, etc. after Hurricane Katrina has destroyed most of New Orleans. This book is more interesting than some of the others and has moments that are quite touching. It also focuses more on Eric and Bill, two characters that Sookie fans love to love.
