Product Description:
Now Available in a box set-the first four Dark Tower Books -- with new material from the author!

The Gunslinger
The Drawing of the Three
The Waste Lands
Wizard and Glass

In this brilliant series, Stephen King introduced readers to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. Roland's quest for the Dark Tower took readers on a wildly epic ride-through parallel worlds and across time. A classic tale of colossal scope-crossing over terrain from The Stand, The Eyes of the Dragon, Insomnia, The Talisman, Black House, Hearts in Atlantis, Salem's Lot, and other familiar King haunts-the adventure took hold with the turn of each page...

In a major publishing event, the quest for the Dark Tower continues in Wolves of the Calla (Volume V), Song of Susannah (Volume VI), and The Dark Tower (Volume VII), coming from Scribner, beginning in November 2003.

Now readers can go back to where it all began with this box set of the first four Dark Tower titles, each featuring a new packaging and new introduction. Plus Book I, The Gunslinger, has been completely revised and expanded throughout.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Rather disappointing
I've read through the first two books and I have to say, it was a rather boring experience. I was recommended these by some online friends who said they were brilliant. The first book was rather drawn out; the main plot is based around the character's memories as he walks through a desert. It makes you feel like you've missed something the whole time. It made me feel like there should have been a book before the first and was a bit angry that he spent most the time focusing on the past than what was currently happening. Half of the second book revolves around the main character and one of the people he has 'drawn' into his world. It again was a dragged out narrative that seemed to go nowhere.

I dig King's descriptions of the events, but I would have liked to see the plot move faster. I haven't read all four books in the set, but I imagine much won't change.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - These are INCREDIBLE stories!
Guys, trust me...I know the series starts slow...GUNSLINGER is definitely a slow moving story...slow, yet beautifully told. I promise you, if you get through 'the Gunslinger,' this series is an experience to behold. You will NOT be sorry! It is pure, unadulterated GENIUS. Stephen King is a master storyteller...

....I can't wait to see what he thinks of my books in the future...I'm really curious!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - King's finest . . .
While I am not really a fantasy or a science fiction fan, and the Dark Tower series seems to take elements of each of these (and several others), I cherish these first four books in the series. While the Dark Tower series is hard to describe, it is easy to read. The first four books in the series are some of my favorite books of all time. I have reread each several times (something I rarely do with any book). Book five is good, just not up to the high standards of one through four. Books six and seven were the largest disappointments, to me, of any author's work. None of this, though, can take away the magic of books one through four. I can safely recommend these books to you, almost no matter what type of books you usually like.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I almost wish this was the whole series
These four books are my favorite from the dark tower series. From the first book which is the introduction to Roland, to the second where he acquires the rest of his Ka-tet, into the third which is basically the beginning of their journey for the tower as a group, and reintroduces jake. And the fourth book(my favorite), which tells the story of roland becoming a gunslinger. I've read this one the most, because it's almost like a stand-alone story. After these books, the series really seemed to have gone downhill. Maybe this is why the new graphic novels are exploring the time period after the story within wizard and glass.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Stephen King at his best.
This is far and away the best serial ever written. Of course there are 15 plus other books tied to The Dark Tower series. No library is complete without them. You have to have all seven in The Dark Tower set to fully appreciate the magnitude of the story. Very highly recommended.
