Product Description:
Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetite. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin.

Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him. When Mary Luce is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world, she must rely on Rhage's protection. Knowing that Mary feels the same intense animal attraction, Rhage must make her his alone...

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Totally Over-Hyped Series
I am relatively new to the paranormal genre. On the recommendation of a co-worker I decided to give it a try with Kenyon's "Dark Hunter" series last spring and since I enjoyed some of those, my interest was peaked. Then discovered the outstanding Feehan and her wonderful Carpthians. So I was excited when I read the rave reviews for Ward's BDB and thought I found another great paranormal series. Well....

The Good:
I did find Dark Lover to be a good read and the brothers came across as unusual vamps with their slang and rolling in their Escalade. Each brother appeared to be self-assured alpha males who had each other's back and wee ready to unite and save their species.

The Mediocre:
Mary's returning leukemia was merely conjured up for dramatic effect to elicit strong emotions from the reader. Her illness and subsequent sterileness were contrived as a battery of tests for Rhage to prove his devotion to her. Surely there are some strong, intelligent, and compassionate vampire females, such as Wellsie, for the brothers to find their HEA and rebuild their race with.

I felt absolutely no connection to Butch, he was no more than an irritating appendage and I was hoping he would get killed off.

Although I detested that simpleton Marissa, I thought Wrath's treatment of her was abominable and I am not altogether convinced he will make the kind of king to unite his race.

We all know that John Mathew is Darius reincarnated, so his conversion was no big revelation.

The Negatives:
The author really blindsighted me with the introduction of homoerotica. I have no interest in reading about alpha males attraction to other males. I thought with Wrath's ascention to the throne the purpose was to rebuild their society. How will this be accomplished with sterile females, incorpreal mates, and homosexual males?? Will females only be used for breeding while the intense relationships will be between males?

I can sort of understand why the author went this route because her female protagonists are dull, whiney, not very cerebral creatures. I felt no empathy for Mary, Marissa, or Jane. No wonder the young new male converts were checking out each other.

I realized I should have dropped this series after the death of Wellsie, an interesting character with so much promise. I kept thinking that for such bad asses, these vamps cannot even keep a pregnant female or a young female safe from their enemies.

My view of paranormal romance involves alpha males finding his one true mate who brings balance to his world. I will not spend any more of my time and money here. I am on my way to trade the four Ward books I bought to my local used bookstore. I thought of keeping Lover Awakened because I adore Zsadist, but given the direction of the series, I do not plan to revisit this world. Maybe I will give the "Twilight" series a try. I am certain I will not be subjected to male rapes, S/M., homoerotica, or sickly/dull-witted female protagonists.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - You'll love Rhage!
2nd book in the Black Dagger Brothood Series. The first time I read this book, I thought it was just okay. I'm really glad I went back and read it again! At first glance, Rhage didn't seem to me to be very likable. He was good-looking, but that's it. He makes a huge transition during the time he is trying to win Mary. Because of her own issues, she pretty much shuns him and that he can't understand. It takes him quite awhile to win her over and in doing so, his character matures significantly. He is one of my favorite brothers now! Like I said, if you are unimpressed after reading it once, read it again-you'll be glad you did!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Loved this book
A great ensemble group of brothers/warriors. Each book focuses more on one of the brothers, and this one focuses on Rhage.

A great read.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Despite the convenient ending, I loved it.
I appreciated her 'plain' human with a very human disease as the heroine. I also love Rhage. The ending was a little annoying, but it didn't effect my love for this series. J.R. Ward is definitely one of a kind.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
I have read all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. They are great books. Lover Eternal was one of my favorites. I would recommend these books to anyone who has vampire fantisies. I have read all of the books in this series twice and listened to them on audiobooks.
