Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Even within the vampire brotherhood, Zsadist is feared. Still bearing the scars from a tortured past, he is renowned for his unquenchable fury. Anger is his only companion, and terror is his only passion-until he rescues a beautiful female from the evil Lessening Society.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - I admit defeat...
I simply can't continue with this series. It's not that I don't enjoy the stories I've read, it's just that it's so painful to read through the constant use of slang, much of it nonsense and inappropriate for the tone of the book. People don't think in slang and speak in nothing but slang all the time. The author used the word "sh**kickers" SIXTEEN times in this book. Every time it was used, I physically winced.

I've continued through the first 3 books in this series because I truly hoped that the author would tone down after so many negative reviews revolving around the dialogue and even the slang used outside of dialogue. I wanted to give her a few books to ease the characters into it. However, this one was actually more slang-heavy than the others. It's obviously not going to change.

This author strikes me as an affluent middle aged white female who doesn't really know what it's like to be street tough. You feel me, my brothers? It's not authentic. I was left yearning desperately for a way to do a find/replace on my kindle to strip out the nonsense so I could enjoy the story. I found myself tossing the book aside and forcing myself to take a break from it so that the story wouldn't be ruined by whatever ridiculous thing I'd just read.

Aside from the slang, the chapters involving the lessers are pointless. We could have some mystery there and still know what's happening. There are only so many letters in the alphabet -- how do they address each other when there are clearly duplicates? And while we're on the subject of names, the names just go on and on, don't they? How is it that some vampires can be named Bella and Darius and Marissa, but the rest have to have ridiculous names that make you cringe? Oh, I know... let's just shorten them to their first letter. Then we'll not only have the lessers named "U" and "X" and "O" and "M" but we can have "Z" and "V" too!

Believe me, I really tried... but I just can't do it. The author clearly thinks she's created her own unique style and obviously a lot of people enjoy it. But the style is not for me. It's almost sad because I would like to know what happens, but I can't torture.. ahem... tohrture myself any longer. Perhaps when I've exhausted every other option and the curiosity gets me.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nicely Done
Lover Awakened is the third and most riveting offering in the BDB world. I love myself a tortured alpha male who is redeemed by the love of a strong, compassionate, and empathetic woman. Zsadist is exceptional character study of the tormented soul who is scarred mentally as well as physically and is driven by rage, pain, and distrust. Bella was a wonderful counterpart who brings him peace and restores his soul, but he does not make it easy for her.

The reason for the three star review: The death of Wellsie, who I thought was very vibrant female character. I was so looking forward to her and Tohrment becoming parents and I felt she and Beth would have been great friends over the years. I felt her murder was solely for dramatic effect and took me out the story. This race battling for survival, destroying a devoted couple and killing a pregnant female seems pointless. Killing off the insipid and colorless Marissa would have made better sense.

Also, the long and repeated exposition recalling Zsadist time as a blood slave was graphic, repetitive and gratuitous. I found myself skimming through most these scenes. I guess I am more interested in a person's recovery than dwelling on their tormented past.

Other than these two detractions, Lover Awakened was a fine read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Zsadist is my favorite!
This is the most difficult book to read in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. Zsadist's torture during his time as a Blood Slave is very difficult to read, but you knew that his story has to be horrible for him to be so cold and empty. After Bella is abducted at the end of Lover Eternal, Zsadist is drawn even more to her as he understands the emotional and physical difficulties she faces being held captive. You think he's never going to let her in-and that's what makes the last 30 pages so wonderful that you want to cry!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Definitely one of the best of the 'Brotherhood'!
Zsadist's story is really amazing and beautiful, and her character and relationship development is believable and well done. It's one of those stories that gives you hope that no matter the pain and trauma of a past, one can get through it when someone believes in you. I also appreciate that she continues their story beyond this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
I have read all the books in this series twice. I absolutly loved them. This is probably the best book in the series. If you have a vampire fantasy, these are the books for you. I also have them on audiobooks. Very good erotic books.
