Product Description: What has made Ubuntu the most popular Linux distribution in recent years? It's the emphasis on ease of installation and use. It gets even easier when paired with Ubuntu Linux For Dummies. This friendly reference shows you how to run Ubuntu directly from CD-ROM and install it on a PC as a personal workstation and network server. You’ll find out how to download Ubuntu and start using it right away. You'll also discover how to: - Connect to a LAN via a wireless and Ethernet
- Use OpenOffice.org and Mozilla Firefox drawing and editing
- Tap into multimedia, graphics and other applications using Ubuntu
- Create services for a home or small business network
- Generate and manage web pages, print services, and more
- Find helpful information about Ubuntu and Linux
- Troubleshoot and fix problems
"Ubuntu" means "humanity toward others." Operating system guidebooks don’t get any more humane than Ubuntu Linux For Dummies.

This is a great learning tool for Linux newbies like myself. I highly recommend

I bought this book when I got my Asus eee. This book is just TOO simplistic--it doesn't tell you anything that the walkthrough on the setup disc would. There is almost no troubleshooting, which is essential if you've never done a Linux install before. It's too much of a pain to return; I'll do my good deed and donate this copy to the New York Public Library. I'll wait for an Easy Peasy-specific book next time.

I have finally made the definite decision to convert COMPLETELY to Linux and have chosen Ubuntu to be my pardner an home and at work. This book along with others have made me decide to go complete and all at one time, no more playing with partitions and that dual crap. This book, I highly recommend as it makes your life in Ubuntu not only easy but FUN and easy.

I have maybe ten "For Dummies" books and I like the series. However I had been having trouble setting up a dual boot configuration and hoped this book might help with that. Ooops! Nope! All I got were the instructions "if everything went perfectly", which, of course, it did not. There was nothing to help when it didn't work which started right off as I couldn't even get the disk to boot live.
This "For Dummies" book left me very dissapointed.

Perhaps I should have taken the title a little more seriously, especially the "For Dummies" part. This book certainly starts at the beginning and does a fairly good job of it, but my only complaint is that most people moving into Ubuntu are not total beginners at computers. I was expecting a little more depth, but perhaps unfairly so, given the Dummies series.
