Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Christine Feehan has worked magic on a legion of fans with her darkly thrilling Carpathian tales. Now she delivers the provocative story of a female vampire slayer who proves as seductive-and mysterious-as the night dwellers she stalks...

For as long as she can remember, Natalya has been fighting demons: first in the form of childhood nightmares, then later, immortal creatures that kill and prey on the innocent-including her own twin brother. Whether Carpathian or vampire, she slays those who murder by night, and has no equal-until she is seduced by the very thing she considers her enemy...

A Carpathian who has seen nearly everything in his endless existence, Vikirnoff doesn't think he can be surprised anymore-until he faces a woman who rivals him as a vampire hunter. A formidable and gifted warrior in her own right, Natalya has a nature that is strangely familiar-yet alien-to his own. Who is this mysterious female who fears no one-not even him? Natalya could be the key to the survival of the Carpathians, but all Vikirnoff is certain of is that she is the key to his heart and soul...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Feeham takes it up a notch! No helpless heroine here
Very very close to perfect! I especially liked the H and H and how they adjusted to each other and helped each other. No helpless heroine here, and her inner Tiger was a nice touch. All in all a great read for "Dark" fans, although I do admit that, while story line drew me in, it wasn't as light a read as some of her earlier Dark novels ... it was a bit more complex because her Carpathian world is expanding. This one goes on my shelf of Keepers.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - this was the book that started me down the path to reading The Dark Series by Chrisine Feehan
I had just started into paranormal romance and had bought this book because it sounded like it would be good. It far exceeded my expectations! After reading it I started from the first novel in the series, Dark Prince, and have read each one throughout the series ending with the newest, Dark Slayer. I read this series over and over... well certain books anyway, lol =] I do have my most favorites =] But The Carpathians (Dark) Series novels by Christine Feehan is AMAZING! And Dark Demon is AMAZING as well!! I hope that you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did the first time, heather =]

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Battle Weary...
Like all of the Dark books, I read Dark Demon in one sitting. Unlike most of the other books, this one was not quite satisfying. For me, the magic begins and ends with the characters and the plot. This one was just one long battle, the first between the mage and vampires against the Carpathians and the battle between between the couple.

Although the heroine, Natalya, was two centuries old, she came across as a smart mouth, uncouth, adolescent using old televsion shows and movies as points of references. I certainly felt Vikirnov's disappointment when he realized she was his lifemate; he spent centuries in battles to protect humans and Carpathians against vampires and now he was saddled with a combative lifemate when he was seeking peace and stability. Of course, like a true Carpathian, he accepted his fate and adjusted to Natalya's abrasive personality.

I did enjoy learning more about Slavica and was touched by the family's loyalty and affection for the Prince. I am still baffled at the purpose of converting Gabrielle to Carpathian when she is in love with a human, Gary. Converting Gary would be pointless because one of the Carpathian's greatest problems is too many males; with so many in desperate need of mates, this seems an unnecessary complication.

I give Dark Demon three stars because of the story taking place in the Carpathian mountains, fleshing out the role of the Dragonseekers, the appearance of Dominic, finding out what the vampires were seeking in the caves, Maxim as a formidable enemy, and Mikhail was beyond awesome at the end. I had no idea of the power of the Dubrinski/Daratrazanov connection. I laughed out loud when Natalya said, "okay, he can have the book." Dark Demon will be a keeper because of the revelations in this story will intertwine signifcantly in subsequent Carpathian books.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finally, a change in the formula
I REALLY enjoyed this book. There is a lot more lightness and humor than usual. For once, Ms. Feehan gave us a heroine who doesn't sit around wringing her hands with indecision about the whole life mate thing. Even as she is falling for "Vik" (the nickname is another hoot), she is still trying to figure out a way to undo things. And when the battle comes down to the end, it is Natalya's skill that makes the difference in the outcome, not all the warriors' prowress.

It was also nice to see a Carpathian male who was able to adjust -- even though poor Vik was totally bemused and knocked sideways by the unexpected behavior and attitudes of his life mate, he actually tries to change and respond rather than just beat his chest, try to overcome her resistance and make her into the ideal Carpathian female. I was beginning to get bored with that story line, so I really found this enchanting.

And the movie/TV references were hilarious. The one line toward the end - "Everyone has seen 'Star Wars'" -- was so out of the blue it made me laugh out loud. As for people complaining about "too much action," I really liked these action scenes. I really dislike characters waffling around for page after page about their relationships -- it was touching to me that Natalya finally realized that she really did love Vik when she was watching him skillfully fight multiple opponents. Not a whole lot of deep thinking, just bang, there it is.

All in all, this is my favorite of the "Dark" books I have read (I haven't been reading them in order and have only listened to about a half dozen so far), much more fun and with a hero and heroine who seem to be much more emotionally healthy (well, as emotionally healthy as a thousand-year-old guy about to become a vampire and a part mage/Carpathian/human woman can be) than many of the couples seem to be.

I don't give out 5's often, but for simple entertainment value, this book deserves it.

I am an absolute fan of the Dark Series. Look forward to each one of them and have not been disappointed yet. I recommend this book as well as all of the Dark Series to everyone. Great read.
