Product Description:
New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts deftly blends the perfect formula of romance and suspense in this addictively compelling novel of a woman whose career, marriage, and very life may depend on her never learning the truth about her past. . . .
Emma McAvoy may have grown up in the limelight, but some secrets are hidden in a darkness no light can reach. Now on the verge of a successful career, and having fallen in love with the man of her dreams, Emma is looking to the future. Yet it’s the past that is about to catch her from behind.
For Emma, her childhood had been almost like a rags-to-riches fairy tale—until the tragic night that changed her family forever. But what Emma thinks she knows about that terrible night and the man she’s about to marry is only half the truth. The other half is locked away in the last place she’d ever think to look: her own memories. It’s a mystery a handsome and relentlessly driven homicide detective needs to solve in a case that’s haunted him for years . . . and a secret someone will kill to keep.

This was one of the first Nora books I read, after my first read I have not been able to put her down. I found a box of Harlequin romance novels at a garage sale about the same year this came out, and purchased the whole box. Little did I know it was all Nora Roberts so I have luckily read almost every book she has written as Nora Roberts. She is always fantastic. If it is mindless romance or intense suspense she's magic with words.

I read the book this summer & although it was very well written & a good story line I could not for the life of me shake the impact it made on me. It had A LOT of disturbing scenes & it can be so tragic at times. It's good, but it's also slightly depressing. I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks.

I LOVED this book and when I read 'loves to read and travel's review on this book it made me ANGRY. Throwing away a book is wrong...pass it on to Goodwill if you don 't like it..it's not for you to judge what others may find appealing. I thought it was an outstanding book. I felt like I was IN the 60's, the 70's, etc. I loved the character development....I wasn't at all offended by the drug use and language because it fit the times. The 60's WERE full of love, peace, drugs, sex and rock and roll. That's not opinion, that's fact, and Nora portrayed it wonderfully in the book. Each decade was so well defined....I fell in love with each and every character (well, most of them....some were just nasty people, LOL) but I felt like I knew them. Like I understood them and their trials...their hardships...their faults.
I don't want to sound dramatic, but I was sad when I finished this book. It was THAT good. I read it quickly...hid out in long, long bubble baths so I could read as much as I wanted before someone needed Mommy again! LOL I love books like that...they draw you in, you lose your sense of where you are almost...I'm not delusional or anything, I just think that she's a fantastic writer that can place you there, in the scene.
Before throwing a BOOK in the trash you might want to reconsider and give it away. Those friends of yours might not be so easily offended, and, like many of us here, find the book a fantastic read!

I'm sure this will be a great book; Nora Roberts is an excellant writer. I downloaded this on my Kindle and I'm only on the 2nd chapter and there are a ton of typos. I will continue reading because I know the book will be great, but the typos are very annoying!

Plenty of action and filled with 80's and 90's issues but I couldn't get past all of the typos! After one or two typos per page it was hard to focus on the plot.
