Editorial Review:
Product Description: He comes to her more dead than alive, a towering black-clad stranger riddled with bullets and rapidly losing blood. As she struggles to save him, veterinarian Tess Culver is unaware that the man calling himself Dante is no man at all, but one of the Breed, vampire warriors engaged in a desperate battle. In a single erotically charged moment Tess is plunged into his world—a shifting, shadowed place where bands of Rogue vampires stalk the night, cutting a swath of terror.
Haunted by visions of a dark future, Dante lives and fights like there is no tomorrow. Tess is a complication he does not need—but now, with his brethren under attack, he must shield Tess from a growing threat that includes Dante himself. For with one reckless, irresistible kiss, she has become an inextricable part of his underworld realm…and his touch awakens her to hidden gifts, desires, and hungers she never knew she possessed. Bonded by blood, Dante and Tess must work together to thwart deadly enemies, even as they discover a passion that transcends the boundaries of life itself….

Just as I thought, this second book is a better novel than the first one. Lara Adrian is getting better, the poorer writing and awkward battle scenes of the first book are disappearing.
PLUS POINTS: 1. Dante is a vastly improved alpha male than Lucan. He has a richer and more interesting background story. He is a centuries old Italian whose mother was a seer. Her gift of being able to see the future she gifts to Dante. He has visions of a fiery death that repeatedly haunt him and because he assumes that he is going to be reduced to ashes at any time. He developed a fatalistic, reckless bravado that make him a deadly assassin, a dependable battle mate and a vampire who believes he will never settle down with a love that will last forever. 2. Destiny throws him for a loop and what is great for an Alpha male like Dante, a botched up battle with Rogues nearly kills him. Dante is forced to crawl out of a fetid watery almost grave; covered with wounds and burns, near death to seize his last chance to live by sucking the blood of a human who turns out to be beautiful Tess. 3. Tess, a veterinarian with no knowledge about her own destiny is actually a Breedmate (a rare human woman who is born to mate for eternity with a Breed warrior) and she is unwillingly force to complete 1/2 of the mating process when Dante saves his own life by sucking her blood. 4. Tess is a wonderful heroine. Lots of facets, lots of interesting past issues. She is kind, compassionate, smart, resourceful, loyal. Did I say she is drop dead gorgeous but doesn't really know it or use it in any way? Absolutely endearing to her less than drop dead reader fans. 5. The story blends in the evil, the introduction of Crimson, which is a hyped up version of crank that humans can ingest for thrills, but vampires ingest unwittingly become mindless killing machine animalistic Rogues. 6. Dante and his family of Breed warriors hunt down and kill the Rogues and try to keep other vampires from getting their fangs into Crimson. 7. Adrian lets the love story between Tess and Dante grow with lots realistic bumps and twists along the way. It just isn't "see mate, rip off clothes, have sex, live happily ever after." This was much better than the first book Kiss of Midnight.
Negative points. 1. The ending is way too rushed. With all the fullness and interest of the preceding, I was disappointed with the kind of ending she gave Dante and Tess. They deserved a much more interesting and nuanced resolution of their bonding. 2. When Dante realizes that the visions he had been seeing were not about his death, but about Tess' demise, Adrian did not create a well written or resolving solution for the rescue of Tess. The fact that he was willing to brave the daylight to save her and his fellow warriors willing to risk their lives to help him was good, but the rushed ending let down the story, it was not a completed story line. On page 353, Dante "sees" an evil Rogue Ben taunting Tess with a smokey and fiery death. On page 373, the author seems to have forgotten Dante's vision and when Dante arrives he has time to tell others to put out fires and he rushes in to the room where Tess is tied up and there is no more mention of fire and smoke. The story gallops to Dante being exposed to sunlight and killing Ben. Boom, over.
All that said, Adrian's writing has improved. Her story is much richer, interesting and engrossing. Her heroine and alpha male are much more interesting and captivating. Adrian is getting better and better and I am glad I did not stop reading her after the first book. I am eager for the 3rd one. 4 1/2 stars!

All of the Lara Adrian books are saucy and fun. Kiss of Crimson was my favorite. But it is almost impossible to pick a favorite!

Lara Adrian is a new author to me. Being a Feehan, Ward, Leigh and Showalter fan it is truly hard to find authors that can write good paranormal/alpha male eroctic romance. I am not too impressed with Ms. Adrian but I can see that she has the talent to become bigger and better and I hope she does. Kiss of Crimson and Veil of Midnight where two of the better books in this series. The characters really connected with one another and their love stories is good. The sex scenes was okay, nowhere close to eroctic just borderline! I hope the books to come will burn up the pages because she truly has good strong male/femal characters but they are not burning up the pages with their personalities, love or relations with their partners. I would like to see more!

Ok well I decided to go ahead and read the next in the Midnight Breed Series. This is book 2 by Lara Adrian. I found the book to be ok. Guess this type of vampire is not my style. The plot was ok, the characters typical the ending fair. I already have the next in the series so I will go ahead and and finish it but .... I don't know that I will be reading much more from this author.

I enjoy this author. Her pacing is good. She tells a good story. I just didn't feel as connected to the characters in this book as I did the characters in the first book in this series. While I enjoyed the twist at the end, the book was a little flat in the romance department.
