I enjoy this author. Her pacing is good. She tells a good story. I just didn't feel as connected to the characters in this book as I did the characters in the first book in this series. While I enjoyed the twist at the end, the book was a little flat in the romance department.

It goes something like this.....He comes to her more dead than alive, a towering black-clad stranger riddled with bullets and rapidly losing blood. As she struggles to save him, veterinarian Tess Culver is unaware that the man calling himself Dante is no man at all, but one of the Breed, vampire warriors engaged in a desperate battle. In a single erotically charged moment Tess is plunged into his world--a shifting, shadowed place where bands of Rogue vampires stalk the night, cutting a swath of terror.
Haunted by visions of a dark future, Dante lives and fights like there is no tomorrow. Tess is a complication he does not need--but now, with his brethren under attack, he must shield Tess from a growing threat that includes Dante himself. For with one reckless, irresistible kiss, she has become an inextricable part of his underworld realm...and his touch awakens her to hidden gifts, desires, and hungers she never knew she possessed. Bonded by blood, Dante and Tess must work together to thwart deadly enemies, even as they discover a passion that transcends the boundaries of life itself....
This is my favorite book in the "Midnight Breed Series". I really liked that the couple didn't try to fight their feelings for each other that much, like in most paranormal romance. The couple had chemistry. I loved it.
There are several things I like about the "Midnight Breed Series" over the "Black Dagger Brother".
1. No ghetto talk. There is no - word, true?, you feel me. They talk normal which is a nice change.
2. More focus on the hero/heroine. She (the author)doesn't have several stories going a once.
3. The vampires actually drink the blood of humans. I thought it was weird in "BDB" that they only feed off each other.
4. The bad guys are just Rogue vamps. Not anything weird.
This is just my opinion, I loved "BDB" but reading this series now, I can see where this one is a little more enjoyable.

I love the refreshing story of Dante. It starts off just as exciting as it ends. I could not put it down. This is a great Vampire, love story series. I love the fresh take Lara Adrian uses on each book as it tells the story of a differant Breed Warrior and the breedmate that they tangle with til they finally realize it is where they are meant to be.

This is the 2nd book and it is great. You would want to finish it the moment you start it.

Loved the premise of the book which gave this second effort by Ms. Adrian more heft. She is certainly building on her franchise by introducing the story of Breed Warrior Dante and his Breedmate Tess. While not as lustily hot as the first book, the plot held my attention more than the first. A human (Ben Sullivan) has concocted a drug called Crimson which gives a quick fast high to the local ravers but for Vampires it has a chilling effect. Turning them into blood thirsty Rogue vampires who are harder for the Breed Warriors to kill.
What was great is that with the introduction of Ben Sullivan as the creator of Crimson you sort of got a strong 3 way plot going and parts of the book really worked with both Dante and ex-boyfriend (who still carries a tendre for Tess) fighting over her like a bone. But guess who wins out in the end. Also great was the things that Dante was willing to do in order to win Tess' affection (Harvard).

What needed more work? KEEP IT HOT! I think that the vampire/paranormal works are great for an intense level of SEX. I would have liked to see more of it. Especially with Tegan, Rio and Chase's books on the horizon. Tess had an ability that just sort of showed up but I thought a little bit more could have been done with it. Nora, that was no way for a girl to go out cuz she was pretty spunky and they needed to have done her more justice and she should NOT have gone out like that. Chase. I know he'll get his own book but he just sort of went from a Saville Row dressing accountant type to a what... he just literally walked off into the sunset... well moonset. Lucan, so what he's a stay at home warrior now? Rio, I thought Vamps could heal themselves or at least their metabolism allows for faster healing. So why is he pulling a Quasi-moto in the infirmary? Her endings. Ms. Adrian has the ability to wrap up many plots in the space of like 8 pages. It's sort of like when you have a thirst and grab a 1/2 glass of ice water and guzzle it down only to realize I'm still thirsty. Now I understand that Tegan's book is next. I thought his could have waited but we'll see what Ms. Adrian does with this. and I hope that Gideon (as the resident geek) is able to come up with an anti-rogue turning formula so that we can maybe see this series extend a bit past the original group with the introduction of new Breed Warriors or possibly former Rogue vamps getting into the save the race action.
