Midnight Awakening (The Midnight Breed, Book 3)

Midnight Awakening (The Midnight Breed, Book 3)
Rating:5 out of 5 stars - The best of the series
In fairness, I've only read up to this book in the series. But, this is the best yet. So good in fact that I'm considering stopping here, ending my enjoyment of this series on a high note :)

The book has all of the elements of a great read: Good plotting with minimal holes, good pacing, no fat (i.e. no wandering wordiness, no purple prose, no unnecessary anything), and endearing characters. What I love about this author is that she makes all of this vampire craziness seem, well, sane. The main characters in the book, Teagan and Elise are entirely believable. I like them as a couple. Contrary to some other reviewers, I believe they are well suited for one another. He's all aloof warrior and she's everything he's not: cultured, sheltered, refined. I loved watching Elise evolve from a sheltered socialite with class based prejudices against the Order to a woman who, driven by her own personal pain and loss, develops an understanding of and respect for the Order's work and methods.

I loved this book on many levels. I typically don't like paranormal (esp. vampire) novels, but this author has won me over to the genre generally and this series in particular.

Excellent work Ms. Adrian.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars - I loved the heroine in this book!
With a dagger in her hand and vengeance on her mind, Darkhaven beauty Elise Chase prowls Boston's streets in search of retribution against the Rogue vampires who took from her everything she cherished. Using an extraordinary psychic gift, she tracks her prey, well aware that the power she possesses is destroying her. She must learn to harness this gift, and for that she can turn to only one man--the deadliest of the Breed warriors, Tegan.
No stranger to loss, Tegan knows Elise's pain. He knows fury, but when he slays his enemies it is with ice in his veins. He is perfect in his self-control, until Elise seeks his aid in her personal war. An unholy alliance is forged--a bond that will link them by blood and vow--and plunge them into a tempest of danger, desire, and the darkest passions of the heart. . . .

This is one of my favorite books in the "Midnight Breed Series". Elise is a kick b**t heroine. She and Tegan make a great couple and a great story.

There are several things I like about the "Midnight Breed Series" over the "Black Dagger Brother".

1. No ghetto talk. There is no - word, true?, you feel me. They talk normal which is a nice change.
2. More focus on the hero/heroine. She (the author)doesn't have several stories going a once.
3. The vampires actually drink the blood of humans. I thought it was weird in "BDB" that they only feed off each other.
4. The bad guys are just Rogue vamps. Not anything weird.

This is just my opinion, I loved "BDB" but reading this series now, I can see where this one is a little more enjoyable.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars - Loved it
Ok. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read about Tegan in this story when I read the first two books, but once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! This was a very well written love story. I ended up loving Tegan more than Lucan and I never thought that possible!

Rating:5 out of 5 stars - nother good book
This book had a lot of suspence in it. It had you wanting more from Teagan and Elise. You will not be disappointed

Rating:3 out of 5 stars - Good, but dialogue gets in the way
For what they are, these are great reads. Adrian has really created a pretty interesting mythology to serve as the back drop for her unabashed fantasy romance novels. This was my favorite so far mainly because this heroine had the most interesting backstory yet. There was a darkness and drive to her that was absent in the others. The biggest stumbling block is the cornball B-grade macho movie dialogue that spews forth during the action sequences. In and of themselves, they're pretty exciting. But, when a main character in the previous installment stopped in mid-fight to actually quote "Die Hard," my eye-rolling took me completely out of the moment. And that happens a lot in the series. Too bad.
