World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
Rating:5 out of 5 stars - Totally, totally loved it
Best book I've read this year -- grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until the end. And I'm not even a zombie fan.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars - Good book.
It's about zombies, but could be about any plague striking worldwide, such as H1N1. It's really about how people deal with an unimaginable pandemic. Not the best book I've read, but 4 and a half stars. I gave it 5 though.

Rating:4 out of 5 stars - My brother thouroughly enjoyed the book.
I bought this book for someone and my brother read it before I gave it to that person. He says it was really good. I would probably buy other books from Max Brooks.

Rating:4 out of 5 stars - Zombie War Interviews
The Zombie Wars have occurred and now the human race is recovering and Max Brooks is documenting this historical period through interviews with the survivors. For those familiar with Studs Terkel, you will appreciate Max's interview style to capture the voices of the people that were there.

Brooks does a nice job in providing details which fire your imaginations in what-if scenarios and questions of curiousity. You will have moments during the reading when you will say to yourself, "...I didn't think about that..." or "...I would have..." Each of these responses says that you are brought into the story.

My slight criticisms are that a couple of the narratives get a little long and the book's ending is a little weak. I accept the ending because, like most "history" books one does not usually have an emotional "wow" response.

Overall, "World War Z" is an enjoyable read and I would recommend to everyone who wants to engage in today's fascination with Zombies, or if you want to know what your teenagers are reading.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars - It got to me
First of all let me qualify this review by saying that I do not really like zombie stories or movies. I heard Max Brooks on Coast to Coast AM one night and figured the son of Mel Brooks might make an enjoyable read.I thought that it might be a funny take on zombies. Wow, was I wrong.
There was not a funny word in the book. It was a really insightful view of modern day humans. It is well written and a bit too accurate.
Let me just put it this way... I work nights, outside, alone. After I started reading this book I started hearing things and seeing things. In my opinion any book that can do this is well worth the price. The real kicker to this book is realizing that I would not have been one of the survivors to be able to give an interview. Yeah, this book really got to me.
Buy the book, you will not regret it.
