Editorial Review:
Product Description: Glenn Beck has entertained, inspired, and informed millions with his self-effacing humor, heartfelt conviction, and down-to-earth approach to life. And in The Real America, a powerful collection of his early writings, he calls it as he sees it, cutting through the fog of those who have made it their mission to underestimate -- and undermine -- the greatness of America and the power of "We the People." Whether the topic is family, religion, personal responsibility, rampant political correctness, presidential elections, or out-of-control celebrities, Glenn Beck rails against the forces that keep us from uniting and fulfilling our potential and explains how to overcome them. His compelling, patriotic, and spiritually driven message will inspire you to connect with your own power and help lead us back to that place that is quickly being forgotten...THE REAL AMERICA.

Mr Beck often uses hyperbole and humor to get his point across. In this book, it is more personal, more human. Even when I disagree with him, I can see his point of view and understand why he feels as he does. As to the definition of right wing crazy, Mr Beck fails. He was just as big a thorn - and thoughtful critic - of the Bush administration as he is of the Obama administration. I suspect Mr Beck is the Will Rogers of our day. In any event, this is a thought provoking book and I highly recommend it. If your liberal side gets toasted, don't take it too hard; he is just as hard on small minded republicans and conservatives. But he will NOT suffer a fool! Go ahead and read it - you may find ol' Glenn a lot smarter than you think.

I've read a lot of Glenn's books, but this one is almost as if he's talking to you and making sense. I nearly couldn't put it down.

Drive the heard in the direction you want with fear. Joseph Goebbels knew and used this very well.

This is the first political commentary talking head book I have read. I started it with an open mind, not knowing who Beck was or where he stood. I agree with him on several points such as `political correctness' and education, but I have to say his views of Bill Clinton are one sided against him. Sure Clinton was wrong for what he did with Lewinsky, but Beck totally negates the positive aspects of his presidency. He is dead on about Hilary... I could look past this, but his views on the Middle East are way off.
Beck contends that peace will come when we root out terrorism and instill democracy. WAKE UP CALL, Muslims no more want democracy than Henry VIII. Muslims will always want a strong centralized government that tells the people what to do; it is inherent in their religion. The other issue is the divisions of Islam. Shi'a, Wahabi, Sunni none of them get along and all vying for dominance is the lands of Islam. I support the ousting of Hussein because he was `evil', but attempting to force democracy down their throats is why we are a quagmire and can not get out.
He is also incorrect on tithing. First, there is no 10% rule, you should give graciously not begrudgingly. 1% cheerfully is much more than 50% begrudgingly. Also, you do not give more to the church in order to receive more, you give out of appreciation for the gifts God gave you and not with the expectation that you will receive even more in return.
