Editorial Review:
Product Description: Two elderly, eccentric, next-door neighbors sustain a rancorous relationship that only a wise observer could recognize as a very special friendship. When a lonely, flamboyant, middle-aged widow moves in across the street from them, the male rivalry begins.
Amazon.com: Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are reunited in this popular 1993 comedy, in which the Odd Couple veterans play John and Max (respectively), a pair of elderly bachelors whose lifelong friendship is based on mutual aggravation and constant bickering. Their competitive natures kick into overdrive when the beautiful Ariel (Ann-Margret) moves into their otherwise snowbound Minnesota neighborhood. She takes a liking to John, but after a lover's spat she also gives Max a chance at romance, and the long-time buddies reach a peak of grumpy rivalry. It's a stretch to think that Ann-Margret's dating choices would be limited to a pair of grouchy codgers, but sarcastic attitude and snappy dialogue made this a surprise hit (followed by a 1995 sequel), and Burgess Meredith adds plenty of spice as Lemmon's amorous old father. Don't forget to watch the hilarious outtakes during the closing credits! --Jeff Shannon

It started off ok, but got slow and predictable as it went on. Could inspire you to wanna go to bed early. All that snow made me wanna hibernate. The irreverent outtakes as the credits roll are about the best part of this film.

I LOVE these guys and I am 25! I think they are so funny, great family film. It is great for all ages (well maybe not youngsters). I would recommend anybody watching it!

These movies have been around for a while, but they are absolutely wonderful. The price was excellent.

With the follow-up, 'Out to sea', both of these comics died within months of each other. Who WOULDN'T love to see them starring with the still luscious Ann Margret and Sophia Loren?

First of all let me say, in this review I intend to review the movie itself, not the content of the package. I could go on and on about the lack of bonuses, the full-screen aspect ratio, and whatever else is bringing down the overall rating of this DVD, but I simply don't want to go there. After all, I view bonuses as mere "eye candy" -- they are not the main reason for buying a movie.
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are comedic gold. This film is no exception. I love to watch the old men bicker with each other, and watching them compete with undeniable jealousy over the same woman is hysterical. The many pranks and games they get into with each other are very funny. Watching two old men fight could never be more enjoyable!
So, despite what one could call a wasted opportunity, it is still a movie well worth watching. The sequel, "Grumpier Old Men," is also quite good.
