Rating:  - Another swing and a Myth
They are getting worse and worse. Obviously an attempt to continue to wring money out of this concept. Written by Nye and approved by Aspin. No wonder it doesn't feel like his original works.
Rating:  - The last of a favorite series
I have loved the Myth series since I read the first book in high school almost 30 years ago. Even though they had fallen into something of a formula, they always entertained, and will certainly be fondly regarded as the series that allowed the fantasy genre to poke fun at itself. I received Myth-Chief shortly after Mr. Asprins' death, and reading it was truly bittersweet. It is a good entry into the series, and I will always wonder where he was going to take it next. For fans of the series, it won't disappoint. For newcomers I recommend you start with the first book, Another Fine Myth, and work your way here.

I really enjoy the Myth series and this title was no exception. I usually devour these books when I get my hands on them. If you are looking for a light hearted read with a good dose of humor then the Myth Series is for you.
While it is not required that you read all the other stories in the series first, I think it helps a little bit. The characters do develop over the series.
I did like how there were footnotes all throughout this novel pointing out which stories passages were related or referring to.

Very disappointing! I am a huge fan of the MYTH series and looked forward to this latest installment with great anticipation. I was almost tempted to stop reading several times during the course of this book. Very slow and not much action or interesting dialog going on between all the MYTH characters that we have grown to know and love. Did Mr. Asprin really write this book? It must be a ghost writer (fingers crossed) because I cannot understand how such a stellar and creative writer could possibly put his name on this piece of c*ap. Don't waste your time with this installment.

The earlier Myth books are like popcorn -- light, fun, and one of the most re-readable series I know. I've spread the word widely among my friends -- even gone so far as to read excerpts out loud. Those early books are easily some of my favorite fiction, in any genre.
I plodded through the recent resurrection of the series in some sort of loyalty stupor. But this book was so sickening that it finally broke the trance. I actually threw the book at around the halfway point. I went back to finish it, but I wish I hadn't.
Let me put it bluntly -- if you like Robert Asprin's Myth series, you'll hate this book. It makes each of the characters either hollow, shallow, or stupid. The motivations are muddy, the "twists" are both transparent and unreasonable. Whereas in the earlier book the characters would think like the reader, asking relevant questions and coming up with creative solutions, in this book they seem to be generally duped and miss the most obvious ideas.
The Myth series is over. Stop buying the new books; go back and enjoy your old favorites instead.
