IN THIS SECOND BOOK A VAMPIRE NAMED VYPER WHO IS ALSO A CLAN LEADER BUYS A SLAVE NAMED SHAY WHO IN THE FIRST BOOK HE MET WHEN SHE SAVED HIS LIFE! My review of the first book in this series, When Darkness Comes, was only 3 stars as I felt it lacked much. Having purchased all the books, however, I decided to read on to the next in the series. This one is better--and I like Viper--but I have to say I'd make it a 5 star review if she would only take the trouble to individualize the characters more, particularly the heroines. Why do they all say the same things? (i.e., "holy crap" "cripes" "damn"). And many times their dialog is too flippant for the era or the character or the scene. And what's with all the cliches? It's just not believable. For authors who do not make these errors, see Kresley Cole and Kathryn Smith, both paranormal romance authors--and good ones. Still Ms. Ivy creates good plots and action and great sexual tension. So, the books are enjoyable. I just think they could be so much better. I guess Kresley Cole and Kathryn Smith have spoiled me. I hope Ms. Ivy's reading this. It wouldn't take much to improve her books and make the dialog more genuine.

Among the best of Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series. Lady Shay is half human and Half Shalott demon. Since her adventures in book 1 Viper has taken an interest in her. When she is put up for sale as a slave Viper buys her. Not as a slave but to convince her to become his mate. Convincing her is the least of his problems as another who was bidding on her will stop at nothing to get hold of her. Even break every vampire law in existence and face the wrath of The Pheonix.

STORY BRIEF:
Shay is half human and half Shalott (demon). Her blood is an aphrodisiac to vampires. She is the last Shalott in existence. A curse binds her to the troll Evor. He puts her on the auction block to sell as a slave. Viper (a vampire clan leader) buys her with the highest bid. She expects to be kept as a slave and is wary to find that he treats her as a guest. A powerful evil entity wants Shay and sends hellhounds, demons, and others to get her. She and Viper must fight and at times flee. A relationship between Viper and Shay develops through lust and more. A fun part of the story is Shay's friend Levet (a three-foot tall gargoyle), another slave of Evor.
REVIEWER'S OPINION:
The Shay and Viper characters weren't entertaining enough. Their story seemed to drag, but got more interesting toward the end. The demons, vampires and others having conflicts and fighting for power was similar to a lot of other books. Some of Viper's past was merely referred to and should have been better explained. The best parts were with the actions of Levet toward the end. He delighted me. He did some interesting things. I would give 4 stars for Levet's activities, but since his parts were minor, I'm staying with 2 stars for the main story. Also because at times, I wanted it to be over.

This was my first Alexandra Ivy book, and I must say I'm impressed. Viper had me from the word go. The chemistry between he and Shay was practically thermonuclear. The loves scenes were well written and VERY HOT! I mean who can resist a silver-haired vampire who risks life and limb to save the woman he loves??? Ladies, this is one book you can definitely lose yourself in.
