I am going to be honest with you; I had never heard of Rick & Bubba before until I got this book. Apparently they are a big radio deal--I listen to Sirius, so it was news to me.
However, this book is easy to read, funny and offers some very basic, albeit, very important advise on getting married, being married and staying married.
Bonus material in the back is a CD of some of the bits in their show. I have yet to listen to those--but promise to pop it in my CD player so I can say I have actually heard the "two sexist fat men in America."

Oh my goodness! Rick and Bubba are right on in so many ways. I have to admit that I had never heard of them before (sorry guys) but they are hilarious.
Their take and view on the way marriage and women work is hysterical yet deeply accurate.
I found myself quoting their book to my husband and for the record not just the parts about husbands. There were times I so clearly saw myself in Rick and Bubba's descriptions of wives that I would bust out laughing. Clearly a weird moment when you do so at the doctor's office.
My favorite concept of the book is that it is written by two men that love the Lord, their wives, their family and humor. No wonder they are considered the sexiest "fat" men alive. What can be more attractive then men that love God and "get" their wives?
This book contains an extra added book...The Book of Blame with contains many amendments to the laws of marriage. My personal favorite was: Article XXXVIII
"If you hit a pothole in the road, it's your husband's fault. He should have warned you about it...on the cell phone..from his office!"
Don't laugh! That really happened to me just recently and cost me $400 to get a new tire for the front of the car and I WAS on the phone with my husband which is why I hit the silly thing in the first place.
Rick and Bubba have a few decades of marriage under their combined belt but even more experience being men so it was an incredible insightful read.
Lighthearted, straight to the point and very informative. Give your sweetheart a chuckle and read the book together...it will definitely give you a lot of points to discuss. It did for my hubby and I and we are still married!

If you are not aware of who Rick and Bubba are then you are missing some great laughs.
In this book about marriage, Rick and Bubba share stories from their own marriages that are absolutely hilarious. The really funny thing is they are hilarious because you can relate their experiences to your own.
They are down to earth and share true stories in a very humorous way. It is amazing how they can look back and laugh and so many people cannot. Maybe reading this book will help those who have a lot of pent up frustration with their mate to laugh and realize that as men and women we are very different and we really can compliment each other.
It comes across clearly in the book that both Rick and Bubba have a deep love and respect for their wives. This is also a great book for couples who are planning to marry. They can look with a view to finding the humor before it actually happens.
There is a great CD included with the book that has some of the funniest stories from the book as Rick and Bubba share them on live radio, an added bonus to be sure.
This is one of those books that you can read in a couple of days or use as a daily dose of laughter and reality to start your day. As a matter of fact that thought just came to my mind, it would make a great way for you to start your day with a positive view of your mate and help you to not take little quirks that we all have too seriously.

I recently had the opportunity to read this book by Rick Burgess and Bill Bussey (I have never heard of them before) regarding marriage. This may be one of the worst marriage books I have ever read.
The chapters are short, and seem to be just bits compiled from their radio show. They try to be funny, and perhaps they are when listened to on the radio, but when put into print, it just comes over as unfunny, trying-to-hard humor. Their advice, when given seriously, is the same old stuff that has been hashed around for years. Nothing new is brought to the table. It is as if, since they are both married, it made them an expert on the subject.
One example near the end of the book is typical. Rick is talking about how his wife challenged him to a race on a beach during a weekend vacation without the kids. He ended up shoving her to the sand during one of the races, and tries to make this out as a funny event. I find it just rude, much like most of the stories in the book.
If you are looking for marriage advice, seek it from someone who takes the topic seriously. If you are looking for humor, find someone who is funny. You won't find either in this book. Steer clear.

I recently picked up Rick and Bubba's Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage. I was skeptical at first and thought this was going to just be a joke book and more of a book mocking marriage, I was rather surprised.
I especially liked that they shared stories that most people can relate to. In their stories, you were caused to think and evaluate your own marriage and also made to laugh. In the midst of the humor and real life experiences, they did a wonderful job of bringing in the truth of God and what God expects in a marriage.
This is a great light read that will not leave you disappointed unless your expectations are for seriousness! I would recommend this as a lift me up read.
I am curious to read more of Rick and Bubba's books and hope that they are just as humorous and entertaining!
