In the nearly 30 years since the accident that made this radio personality and columnist a quadriplegic, Dan Gottlieb has developed a finely tuned quality of awareness that most people never achieve. He became an outsider among us—“like a foreign correspondent,” as he puts it—and here, Dan shares his insights into what it means to be human.
Written with humor, honesty, a gift for storytelling, and breathtaking compassion, Learning from the Heart looks at what divides as well as unites us: the problems of family life; difficulties confronting today’s parents; challenges faced by the disabled and the aging; and issues of injustice that affect the way we understand the world and our lives.

This book may of just come at the right time but it changed my attitude about life and changed my circumstances in one weekend read. I had been worried about lossing my job and about aggressive peers pushing me out. I was also going through a challegning family situation. Mr. Gottlieb's words were positive and heartful. I highlighted all of the areas that touched my heart and then loaned it to a friend. Once I got it back I reread my highlights and I am still in a much more positive mode. This is gentle book about living through learning, and with our fear. A kind and gentle book of lessons learned and dealing with the realities of life. 3 months later I am still positive, and reading his other book "Letters to Sam". Listen and you will learn more, and feel much better.

Life's lessons are more invaluable than anything one is going to learn in school. "Learning from the Heart: Lessons on Living, Loving, and Listening" discusses and what it means to be human. Written by a man who has experienced both the best and worst of life, "Learning from the Heart" offers poignant insights into life and love, and how to push oneself forward to the future. "Learning from the Heart" is a moving read, highly recommended.
