Product Description:
Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband’s betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has made a name for herself as a top prosecutor while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter.

But everything changes when Alexa is handed her latest case: the trial of accused serial killer Luke Quentin. Alexa prepares for a high-stakes trial . . . until threatening letters are addressed to her beautiful seventeen-year-old daughter, Savannah. Alexa is certain that Quentin is behind the letters — and that they are too dangerous to ignore. Suddenly she must make the toughest choice of all — and send her daughter back to the very place she swore she would never return to: the place where her marriage ended in heartbreak . . . her ex-husband’s world of southern tradition, memories of betrayal, and the antebellum charm of Charleston.

Now, while Alexa’s trial builds to a climax in New York, her daughter is settling into southern life, discovering a part of her family history and a father she barely knows. As secrets are exposed and old wounds are healed, Alexa and Savannah, after a season in different worlds, will come together again — strengthened by the challenges they have faced, and with Savannah now at home in the southern world her mother fled.

A novel that will catch you off guard at every turn, Southern Lights is Danielle Steel at her electrifying best.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Worst Book Ever!
I bought this book on compact disc for a road trip with my mom and sister. We listened to this audio book for over nine hours. We are all very angry we wasted that time. I don't read much Danielle Steel, but I have enjoyed some of her older works. Danielle Steel, bless her heart, should stop writing now. Southern Lights had no real plot and no true antagonist. Please do not waste your time, I am very sorry I did.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Where are the twists??
This book starts out very well. Bad guy arrested for a horrendous crime. Alexa's (main character)daughter gets threatening letters from someone.Because Alexa is prosecuting attorney of bad guy in jail. Daughter is wisked away to daddy's whom she has no relationship with. New wife hates daughter. Bad guy goes to prison, daughter comes home. That is about as exciting as it gets. There was so many openings for twists and turns in this book. But it was simply this dry and boring. I kept thinking oh he didnt do it, someone else is writing the letters, someone else is setting the guy up for the crimes.... but alas NOPE

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A disappointment!
I actually found myself skimming over pages in this book. I thought there was a lot of unnecessary redundancy used just to fill the pages. Not sure I'll read Danielle Steel again.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - NOTHING INTERESTING!!
Well, at first I was surprised, Steel was going a different direction in this novel. However it ends up she just drove in circles!!!!

This is about a woman, Alexa (lawyer) who is trying a criminal for murder and rape. Ok...so what? Nothing interesting happens during the preparation, or duration of the trial. Her daughter is sent away after a few threatening letters. Ok...so you would think that idea goes somewhere...wrong. Dead end. Daughter goes to live with Dad in the South. To sum that portion of the book up, dad married a witch of a woman who isn't happy the daughter is there. So? And.......nothing more. They meet other family members...zzzzz.

The trial is over and near the end Alexa meets a senator. WOw...the excitement is overwhelming. But as with the rest of this book, nothing interesting happens here either.

All in all nothing ever happens of interest. This was one BORING book!!!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Vintage Danielle Steel
I enjoyed this book as a long time Steel fan! The core issue of the story, the trial and safety of the main character's daughter was excellent, but the last couple of chapters of the book where the main character suddenly has a romantic relationship felt very rushed, not enough meat to it to make sense. It almost felt like an add-on to satisfy the usual successful Steel formula. Still woth a read though.
