This software does a good, but not great, job. My wife and I have used it for almost two years.
On the plus side: it is the only software I have found that does true envelope budgeting. The tools here are much more powerful than Quicken or Money (I have used both before switching to Money Map). The system is tremendously powerful and flexible, although it has a steep learning curve. You can't have powerful, flexible, and easy to use all at the same time.
On the minus side: it is slooooowwwww. I've used other Java programs that aren't this slow, so something else (inefficient database?) is making this program slow. I have a decently fast computer (2.4GHz dual core processor, more than 2GB of RAM, running XP) and still it's slow. Occasionally I've hit a real honest-to-goodness bug (not just user error), although they have made patches to those problems once I have reported them.
On the whole: I use it and hesitantly recommend it because I have not found any other program that does real envelope budgeting. If I ever found a real competitor for this product, I would seriously consider switching.

I like Crown Money Map Financial Software, it makes it easy to use the envelope system without actual envelopes. You also have a variety of reports you can view your finances with.

I've been using Money Map Financial Software when it used to be called Money Matters Deluxe. I've always enjoyed the way that Money Map works and I can't seem to find a software program out there that budgets the way Money Map does, otherwise, I would have switched long ago. This is for two reasons:
1) First, the people at Drake (the company who programs the software for Crown) used Java as the programming language and this is acutally the biggest complaint I have for the software. It's slow on my system and it blanks out when I have other software open that use Java or if I have a Internet browser window open that uses Java. I've heard others have this problem as well. The system is unreliable to work correctly at times.
2) Second, the software is way overpriced, especially for it being so buggy. The software should really be offered for about $30 - $35, but not for $65 (what Crown charges you).
Like I said, I like the way the software is put together and how it works when it does work. This is the only reason I'm still using it. If it was programmed in another language and worked more solidly on my system, then I wouldn't have a problem. If you can find it at a great deal somewhere then it can help you with your finances. I'm holding out hope that the company will eventually either improve this one or come out with a better stable one.
