Is there really such thing as a lucky charm? The hero of Nicholas Sparks's new novel believes he's found one in the form of a photograph of a smiling woman he's never met, but who he comes to believe holds the key to his destiny. The chain of events that leads to him possessing the photograph and finding the woman pictured in it is the stuff of love stories only a master such as Sparks can write.

Sorry, but this book is boring. I discovered this about Spark's books after reading the first 8. The 9th book made me think I would never read another of his books. I felt he had run out of ideas. My neighbor loaned me this book and another of his latest. I couldn't say I didn't want to read them. I skipped through the whole middle section - reading only the first sentence of each paragraph. I felt like I was reading the transcript of someone's boring, everyday conversation. The last chapter was exciting but sad in that one person had to die. Another reviewer mentioned that this book was reminiscent of "Message in a Bottle". Precisely what I thought!

Don't know why, but every once in a while I get tempted to give this author yet another chance to finally come up with a book that I like. They often seem promising, yet his writing never changes. It is trite and repetitious, he overuses odd phrases, (for example, "'I'm sorry,' he said, meaning it"--page 150... Then on page 153,"'I'm sorry,' he said, meaning it". Oh, so you're trying to say that he is so very sensitive that when he says he's sorry, he means it?) Later, when Logan and Elizabeth are on their first date at that ridiculous restaurant where wait staff and patrons must recite scripted phrases in order to serve or be served, and the college students there jokingly state "We have crabs!", the author actually explains the play on words to the reader. Really? He didn't think we'd get it?
The characters are one dimensional and not believeable or especially likeable. Even the characters you are supposed to dislike are so stereotypical that you don't even care enough to dislike them. It's a shame, because judging by his picture, Nicholas Sparks looks like a very nice guy, and I want to like his books. But they are so predictable, so full of cliches, and so lacking in originality that I really must remind myself the next time I am tempted to read one that, if you've read one, you've read them all.

Oh, Nicholas, Nicholas, Nicholas. I've been a fan for so long, reading each book you've offered up, year after year. I feel like I've really gotten to know you, like I can I can finish your sentences, like I know how the book is going to end before you've finished telling the story. Oh, wait... That's not a good thing.
Ok, yes, this was a decent story and I did enjoy it, but I couldn't help feeling like I was reading an inland version of Message in a Bottle. I also struggled with the idea of the main character, Logan Thibault, walking from Colorado to North Carolina -- not saying it can't be done, just that I can't quite wrap my head around someone actually walking that far. I bet he was a big fan of The Proclaimers.
As always, Sparks has woven a beautiful story of love between an unlikely pair...full of drama and sweet romance that, although perhaps almost too familiar and predictable by this point, always leaves me waiting for his next novel.
I would recommend it to loyal Nicholas Sparks fans or people arriving late to the part. For people who've read other novels from Sparks and weren't impressed -- there's nothing new to see here, move along.

This was just a "so-so" story, in my opinion. It was an interesting idea to begin with a search for someone in a photo but it seemed like the characters in the story were lacking something. I don't think this was one of Spark's best books. Perhaps he was going for a "Hallmark Movie".

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. I have many of his books and find him to be a wonderful writer. I was very excited to get my copy of The Lucky One! And once again he delivered! This book just sucked me in and I couldn't put it down! Another GREAT book by Sparks!! I read the jacket of the book and was worried if I would be able to follow through with this book. But knowing it was Sparks I bought the book and am SOO glad I did! I LOVED IT!! Thanks Sparks for another GREAT BOOK!
