Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential video:
Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) brings his distinctly cartoonish sensibility to this feature film version of the old Charles Addams comic strip. Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, matriarch of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But it's Christina Ricci who arguably steals the show as their stone-faced daughter, Wednesday. As is often the problem with adaptations of comics or television shows, somehow an original story has to be implemented that doesn't clutter things up. But clutter is an issue here as the script gets tangled on a lame plot concerning efforts to steal the Addams' house and fortune. Still, it's fun to see an ideal cast reanimate an old favorite. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - These are Not the Addams, These Are Actors
I'm not trying to diss this, or the people involved, but these are not the real Addams or even Adams, these are poor actors looking to cash in on the Johnson name. They were gothic going back, but they shun that stuff. My advice if I can is to be a peasant. When all that Quaker stuff made a comeback in like 96, we the Johnsons sold out and began soliciting applications to be a Johnson, tarnishing our royal voodoo heritage and putting a big dent in the family fortune. My mom was sick of being a housewife and wanted to be popular, even buying the Dallas Cowboys. And if you want to be gothic, just be a peasant and be pilgrim religion. You sign up for the Pilgrim pledge card which they ask for as much as 50 percent of your income (10 percent I do is nothing, 10 percent equals 10 cents off of every dollar you earn). Wear really plain clothes like blacks and dark blue and grey colors, dye your hair black and don't wear any makeup, go to worship and bible study. I'm not trying to be a preacher or thump the bible, it's just I was into new wave gothic as a knight of Tiamat and trust me you'll be a lot more satisfied with the dark side of Christianity that you have to be saved in order to go to heaven and it's a lot more natural. We the Johnsons and Adams were gothic going not too far back.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - They really are a scre-am!
This is quite an amazing well done version of a beloved TV series from "back in the day." Baby boomers will adore it, and new audiences to the creepy antics of The Addams Family will instantly become fans.

Christina Ricci is well cast as Wednesday Addams. (Could she have been born to play the part?) The story is as silly as any of the TV scripts ever were, but that only adds to the charm.

This is an excellent family film.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great family fun!
There aren't a lot of movies that you can sit down and enjoy as a family, but this one has something for everyone. It has a lot of laughs, and some small scares, and is really rather entertaining. I recommend this if you're having trouble picking a movie that toddler- grandma can enjoy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of my favorite movies
I think the addams family is one of the funniest twisted movies ever in the early 90's. I also love their haunted house especially their secret vault loaded with golden doubloons. I know this sounds strange but I wish I lived in a house like that seriously. raual julia's (RIP) character was histerical to play gomez addams and christopher lloyed was the perfect character to play as fester addams. I loved this movie I still have it on vhs and I like to watch it at a perfect night.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A joy!
What a splendid film! The acting and actors are all wonderful, the script is an absolute hoot, the filming is brilliant, and the one-liners come faster than you can say 'Groucho Marx.' Highly recommended!!
