Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A So-So Soundtrack
I actually bought this soundtrack for three songs: "The Shag," "Ready to Go Steady," and "Surrender." I really cannot understand others who complain about certain songs being replaced. I'm a huge advocate for using period music in period movies and I love the new stuff in here! It sounds like it could have come right out of the 60's. What better song to open a movie called Shag than a song called "Shag"? It's fun, dance-able, and it captures that young, free, teen feeling of the 60's. It's a much, much better opener than "Mama Said" by the Shirelles. The only real problem I had with this CD was the cover art. How much time could they have spent on making that? It's horrendous! My only wish for this soundtrack is that one day it will be released in it's entirety (with that very fabulous Jakki O song). However, until that day this soundtrack suits me just fine.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Where is the real soundtrack?
I have been on the hunt all day to recreate the real soundtrack for my mom. This is one of our all time favorite movies! The list below is the real soundtrack. Those tracks with an Asterix are the ones on the so-called soundtrack. I can't find ooh ahh anywhere!

Hope this helps!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Explanation on Shag The "Original" Soundtrack
This soundtrack are the songs that were replaced from the VHS version (Except I have no idea where the Katie Lang song came from). That is why it is called "The Original". If you watched this movie alot on cable or had it recorded and then bought the VHS and were shocked when the opening song "The Shag" by Tommy Page was replaced with "Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This". This review is for you. When Melina leaves The Pavilion with that guy. On the cable version it's "Diddley Daddy" by Chris Issac. On VHS changed to "Another Saturday Night" by Sam Cooke.

I understand why people are upset because most of the classic songs that were on the cable version AND the VHS version aren't on this soundtrack (Even though I would think that is most "Original"). Like Stagger Lee, Monkey Time, Ohh Ahh, Sixty Minute Man, and many others already listed in other reviews. I love oldies so finding the songs I previously listed I already had. Most of them are on "Original Oldies" it's an oldies collection of about 15+ CDs. Also on Art Laboe's Dedicated To You. "Ohh Ahh" I have on "Art Laboe's Dedicated To You- Original Sound".

My only question is... What is the DVD like? I was going to convert from VHS but if they changed it a 3rd time I will be extra upset.

So I guess my point is if you knew this movie from heart from watching it on cable then bought the VHS and tried to figure out what were the names of the songs they replaced. Buy this soundtrack because from my ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Absolute Worst Soundtrack Ever!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Everyone,

I've been a huge fan of Shag: The Movie ever since I first saw it in the theatres back in 1989, right before I shipped off to Parris Island, S.C. for Marine Corps Boot Camp. My friends and I actually drove from Columbus, Ohio to Myrtle Beach, S.C. right before the movie came out, so it represents a special time in my life that brings back a lot of memories for me. After I saw the film, I went right out afterwards and bought the Original Soundtrack on tape. I have to say that due to the fact that most of the songs from the movie were not on it, it is probably one of the most, if not the most, disappointing Soundtracks I ever purchased.

Below, you'll find a list I created showing the chronoligical order of the songs on the Shag: The Movie DVD. The are listed by Title, then Artist, then by when the are played in the movie. Songs with an asterix(*) by them are on the Soundtrack. If you any questions or comments, please feel free to write me at albanese41@hotmail.com.
Thanks,
Scoop

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not songs from Movie on VHS
As others have noted, these songs on the soundtrack are NOT in the VHS version of the Movie. Here's what I could tell IS in the VHS version (not in chron. order):
* Momma said there'd be days like this - Shirelles
* Stay - M. Williams & Zodiacs
* Monkey Time - Major Lance
* Ooh Aah - Jakki 0
* It will stand - The Showmen (played several times in movie; some by the "house" band Big Dan and the Sand Dollars -- Actually the Voltage Bros. who played the college/fraternity scene in the 1970s.)
* Stagger Lee - Lloyd Price? or tbd.
* Easier said than done - The Essex
* Baby work it out - Jackie Wilson
* Since I don't have you - the Skyliners
* Sixty-Minute Man - Billy Ward (and the Dominos?) "sung" by house band in the movie.
* Another Sat. Night - Sam Cooke
* He's so fine - Chiffons ?
* 39-21-40 Shape - Showmen ?
* Up on the roof & Under the Boardwalk - Drifters
* Blue Hawaii - Elvis
* He's the one (easier said than done) - TBD
* Alley Oop -- tbd
* You belong to me -- Tbd
