Description: Odd-couple partners Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton spice up the morgue night shift by running a call-girl ring. Year: 1982 Director: Ron Howard Starring: Henry Winkler, Michael Keaton, Shelley Long Special Features: Interactive menus, Scene access Video Format: A: Standard; B: Widescreen Sound: English: Dolby Surround 2.0; Subtitles: English, French Region Coding: 1 (U.S. and Canada)
Amazon.com essential video: Ron Howard's breakthrough film as a director launched Michael Keaton as a screen comic. In this film, he is teamed with a hangdog Henry Winkler as a pair of night attendants at a city morgue. Thinking entrepreneurially, Keaton (as the flakier half of the team) convinces a reluctant Winkler that they could kill two birds with one stone and use their quiet surroundings to start a call-girl business. The first girl in the stable of these unlikely pimps: Shelley Long, pre-Cheers. Given the rather tasteless subject matter (ever really met a happy hooker?), it's surprisingly good fun, ignited by the chemistry between the nebbish Winkler and the jet-propelled Keaton, who seized this role and used it to shoot him to stardom--and into several years of stinkers. Meanwhile, the film was supposed to help Winkler segue from the Fonz on Happy Days to a career acting in movies, but whatever happened to him? --Marshall Fine

Rating: - Good, fun movie!!!
Saw this movie when it first came out YEARS ago and laughed like crazy! Still packs the same comedic punch!
Rating: - Pros Tit u Tion
I remember seeing this movie when it first came out in 1982 and it made quite an impact on a 14 year old.
This movie is so hilarious yet it contains a big heart.
Michael Keaton plays Billy Blaze who's this wild idea man and his comic antics are non stop and flat out off the wall hilarious.
Henry Winkler plays a wimpy loser whos nerve's were so out of wack that he had to leave wall street to work at the city morgue.
Anyway, the two of them end up working together and the nuttiness begins as Bill (Keaton) goes on a mission to "make Chuck a man!"
Night Shift is well written, sexy, funny, warm hearted and the cast could not be bettered.
This is topped by a wonderful soundtrack that features Al Jarraeu,The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, and Rod Stewart doing the original version of the Bachrach classic "That's what friends are for".
So if you're looking for a crazy fun escape from all your troubles then spend a night at the morgue with chuck and bill and get ready to party but be prepared to hold this movie close to your heart for an eternity.
Rating: - "This is Chuck reminding Bill to SHUT UP!!"
I'm surprised by the number of people that can quote Animal House and Caddy Shack inside and out, but never saw this movie. The other 5-Star reviews do a great job capturing the fun and charm of this movie, which at it's heart is a romantic comedy, but don't let that fool you! Keaton, Winkler and Long make a wonderfully endearing and hilarious team. Darn good little story too-- well crafted and doesn't fizzle at the end like most comedic movies do.
And if I had to pick just one comedy from this era (other than Animal House), it'd be this one hands down even over the other well-known classics like Caddy Shack, Stripes, Weird Science, Ridgemont High, Sixteen Candles, 10, Ghost Busters, etc.
This is a classic from that great era, and if you haven't seen it, it'll be like finding a hidden gem.
Rating: - Keaton Sparkles
Michael Keaton is 2/3's of the show, ably supported by Da Fonz, add Eddie Murphy, and an interesting concept and you wish them well. Funny, captivating, and too bad it isn't legal. Legalize polygamy and prostitution and we'd have less wars for oil and more smiling men.
Rating: - Love this old classic...
What can you say about this move but awesome. loved it then, love it now.
