Product Description: HERE COMES THE BRIDE, THE EX-HUSBAND, AND THE GOSSIP-RAG COLUMNIST ON ASSIGNMENT.
Amazon.com: Re-creating the role she originated in Philip Barry's wickedly witty Broadway play, Katharine Hepburn stars as the spoiled and snobby socialite Tracy Lord in this sparkling 1940 screen adaptation of The Philadelphia Story, one of the great romantic comedies from the golden age of MGM studios. Applying her impossibly high ideals to everyone but herself, Tracy is about to marry a stuffy executive when her congenial ex-husband (Cary Grant), arrives to protect his former father-in-law from a potentially scandalous tabloid exposé. In an Oscar-winning role, James Stewart is the scandal reporter who falls for Tracy as her wedding day arrives, throwing her into a dizzying state of premarital jitters. Who will join Tracy at the altar? Snappy dialogue flows like sparkling wine under the sophisticated direction of George Cukor in this film that turned the tide of Hepburn's career from "box-office poison" to glamorous Hollywood star. --Jeff Shannon

I never tire of watching this movie. So well cast and funny. I don't know who really is my favorite star, but it might have to be James Stewart in this one, although both Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn are really good. A good supporting cast, also.

This is an old movie well worth seeing. It is touching and hilarious. What a combination of brilliant actors and actresses, too! The chemistry between all of them is incredible. For an old movie fan, this movie is very special. I think it is worth having a copy of your own. There are things in it that resonate now, especially the relationships between women and men, even if the ideas in it and some scenes seem unreal. That is not a drawback at all to enjoying it. In fact, it might appeal to you that it is a bit unrealistic and "dreamy," so to speak. This movie is also thought provoking and will not be forgotten.

The Philadelphia Story was everything I expected. Witty, well-acted and well-paced. Unfortunately, my DVD player was unable to read the feature disc so I was unable to learn more about its production. Pity.

Always wondered where High Society, the Movie, came from. All is revealed.
Think Grant & Hepburn were sensational. Having seen High Society first, have to say Sinatra & Holm were a better team than Stewart & what's her name; and Sinatra did a much better job on Grace Kelly than Stewart did on Hepburn! This Movie was good value tho'.
