I ordered the cheese cutter and it arrived in good condition and was well packed. However, two weeks later the black plastic piece that holds the wire cracked. I believe this was just a fluke. I sent an e-mail to amazon and they immediately responded by sending me a new cutter at no charge which also arrived in great condition and return authorization and shipping labels to send the other one back. I am very happy with this cutter because it's large enough for a couple of cheeses and crackers and small enough to easily carry around. Don't put it in the dishwasher(it's wood and will split).

I really like this cheese slicer. I had no problems with a broken wire and adjusting the wire so it lines up with the slot in the board is extremely easy.
In the event that the wire does break, there is a label on the bottom with instructions for obtaining a new one (which costs a dollar). This is a nice place to put it since who keeps (or can find) the instruction sheets for all your kitchen gadgets when you need them?
For me the biggest decision was choosing between a hand held wire-type cheese slicer, cheese knives, or a block-mounted wire slicer (like this one). I've tried the first two and had these complaints:
- Hand held wire slicer: does not slice straight. I could never get a nice even cut.
- Cheese knives: do not work well with soft cheeses (like Brie). The knife has so much surface area, the soft cheeses stick to it and get squished as you slice, and are a pain to pull each piece off the knife before you can cut another slice.
As for a board-mounted wire slicer: I've been very satisfied with this (it is my first). I find it cuts through all types of cheeses very well. I just recently cut a bunch of Italian Fatina cheese too thick so I held each 1/4 inch piece under the wire and was able to slice them in half with ease. I would definitely recommend a board-mounted wire cheese cutter... the only question is whether or not you want one like this that can hold crackers. Otherwise, choose a style with a smaller footprint.

I purchased the "cheese tray" as gift for someone who has had one before. The box was a bit beat up when I received it. (it was not the fault of the shipper because the box was inside another box) The blade for slicing the cheese is not lined up properly.
I did, however, receive the package quickly

I bought this so I could put a variety of chunks of cheese on a plate and allow the guests to cut their own size. It worked great. Everyone loved being able to decide how large their slice of cheese was. Even the kids could use it.
