Product Description: With the Rosetta Stone Hindi Personal Edition Level 1, you have the same new language-instruction techniques at your disposal that the U.S. State Dept, the Peace Corps and NASA use!
Amazon.com Product Description: Learn a new language with the award-winning method used by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats. Proven effective by NASA astronauts, Peace Corps volunteers, and millions of students worldwide, the Rosetta Stone Language Library teaches new languages faster and easier than ever before.
We all learn our childhood language by associating new words and phrases with the world around us. The Rosetta Stone method replicates this process by presenting vivid, real-life images to convey the meaning of each new phrase. Instead of translating, memorizing, and studying rules of grammar, you actually learn to think in the new language. Vocabulary and grammar are integrated systematically, leading to everyday proficiency.
The Rosetta Stone Level I program offers a comprehensive course of study for beginning learners, leading to intermediate proficiency. The program contains over 3,500 real-life images and phrases in 92 lessons and more than 250 hours of mastery instruction in listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing. Systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists and drills. There are reviews, exercises, and tests for every lesson with automated tutorials throughout the program. (Ages 6 and older)

Rosetta Stone Hindi is great fun, and I'm learning more efficiently than I did with French & Spanish (using Barrons, Berlitz, Pimsleur, etc.) I wish I had started those languages with RS. I've requested that they produce a level 2 for Hindi, but they said they're not planning to at this time.
Like other reviewers, I highly recommend Rupert Snell's "Beginner's Hindi Script" to accompany the course. It's a must.

Hey there, Patriarch here. This is, obviously, a review of the Rosetta Stone Hindi program. Now your's truly has been a fan of Bollywood movies for almost a year now, and when I get into something, I go in headfirst! So why not learn some Hindi to enhance my enjoyment of the films. I've been seeing quite a few commercials for Rosetta Stone software and they make it look like the holy grail of language courses. The course was expensive though, but I thought this over for almost a week now and I know I'm ready to learn this language! India here I come! I also have considered the fact that learning this language will make visits to my doctor 100% easier. Usually I have to transcribe what he says to me to English anyway, so this will remove one step and let me understand him directly. So I order the program and while I wait for it to come I kill some time watching films like: Chandni, Hum appke hain koun, and Mohabatain. It comes. I pop in Andaz aapna aapna while I wait for the program to install. I'm so excited when the program starts but then...I'm kind of disappointed. It looks very low budget. Stock photos of a low resolution with chicken scratch over them. I've been given no directions so I'm not sure what to do. Well, I fiddle around with it for awhile and found out I am supposed to listen to the narrator tell me what is in each box and then match them to what he says? That's what I paid $200. for, an international version of the Concentration game? I checked the box to make sure I wasn't missing any parts. Nope all there. To make matters worse, that chicken scratch turns out to be the Hindi alphabet, (sorry for calling it chicken scratch, I just didn't know what it was at first :P )The only problem is, they haven't taught me the Hindi alphabet yet, and they don't really tell you how ever. So I have to buy a book. I thought this program was to prevent me from having to use books!!! Well, it was getting to be about 11:00 and I still didn't know Hindi. I had planned on watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that night and finally being able to understand it!
When everything all said and done, learning a language is hard. There is just no easy road! I still don't know Hindi, but my memory skills have improved; I am really getting good at this matching game. I think if one is going to learn a language they should first buy a couple books. And then move on to a program like Rosetta stone. Pimsleur is very good as well. Taking classes is very good, but very expensive and you can only take what's offered. It would also really help if you knew someone that speaks the language. That way you have someone that can tell you how to properly pronounce it. Well, I've got to get back to my Hindi now; maybe my next review will be in Hindi!!!

I've been praising the Rosetta Stone product for awhile. It teaches you in a simple and progressive way. It's almost fun to do and challenges you sometimes and enforces your knowledge other times. It's a good stand-alone but also wonderful to supplement to any Hindi learning classes. It's super easy to use!

This method is not the best for me for language learning. I think it's too indirect, inefficient and not completely clear. I would not buy another program.

I first learned the basics of the Hindi language fourty years ago. I thought this version would help deepen my understanding of the language. I found the pictures were western and the script was Devangari instead of western script. That made it difficult since I have really never learned the Devangari script and wanted to brush up on the language and do it quickly. I also found the level of the program was too simple. It did the present tense but nothing else. I needed to brush up on all tenses and this program was not for me.
