Product Description:
Behind the scenes look at jerry seinfeld as he returns to standup comedy and breaks in a new act as well as the rise of an unknown comic getting his first big breaks Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 01/04/2005 Starring: Jerry Seinfeld Run time: 82 minutes Rating: R Director: Christian Charles

Amazon.com:
If you see Comedian expecting a concert film with Jerry Seinfeld, you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking for an incisive--almost surgical--examination of the psyche of a stand-up comedian, this is your movie. Comedian zigzags back and forth between the hugely successful Seinfeld, who's trying to get back to his stand-up roots by developing an entirely new act, and an unknown comic named Orny Adams, whose naked craving for success is almost painful to behold. Adams lays bare his ego to an embarrassing degree; Seinfeld is more subtle but just as revealing about the fears and anxieties that drive him to go back on stage. By following these two through comedy clubs, festivals, and spots on David Letterman's talk show, the documentary cunningly explores how jokes are put together, the in-the-trenches camaraderie (tinged with competition) of stand-ups, and the sheer existential terror of trying to make people laugh. --Bret Fetzer

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Learn Standup
I bought this thinking it would teach me how to be a standup comic.
I was very satisfied, the video helped me get a behind the scenes overview of how comics develop thier acts. It was also an entertaining movie.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - bad features
they doesn't say that the DVD din't have spanish subs, in general a great dvd, but shame on the subs....

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Rather Disappointing
As a big Jerry Seinfeld fan, I expected more. It was rather interesting to see Jerry at work crafting a new act and encouraging a young comedian, but too many scenes were too dark, literally - you could barely make out the faces and there was way too much of the immature, narcissistic Orly Adams.

The young egotistical Adams was quite a contrast to the more professional comedians, but he was painful to watch and now he's just sad because six years after this film he still isn't a well-known comic probably because he didn't take the good advice most people he met gave him.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very Good
This was a great DVD. Jerry is seen, "behind the camera." He is human, he does say things that aren't always funny. The DVD was edited beautifully by putting in all the clips in a way that put a lot of theme into the DVD. Being labeled as a, "slow movie," is descriptive, not derogatory. The film encourages interest and understanding into the lives of comedians and Jerry Seinfeld himself. It is a very classy film in that Jerry does not have to be the star everyone knows that he already is. Watch it!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Note the TITLE!
COMEDIAN is a documentary about, yes, comedians--in particular Jerry Seinfeld and Orny Adams. It is NOT a movie about comedy, about being funny, or writing jokes, nor is it a set or sequences of sets. If that's what you're hoping for, you will definitely be disappointed. But I've just watched it on the eve of my performance in the finals of the Funniest Person in Hong Kong contest, and watching Adams and especially Seinfeld is incredibly helpful. That Seinfeld, whose name has become synonymous with standup, is this riddled with self-doubt, is astonishing. What Adams had to do--rewrite his material THE DAY of his appearance on Late Night with David Letterman at the request of the producers (he wasn't allowed to say 'lupus'!)--is an eye-opener. So, no, most of it isn't funny; a lot of it is slow; but this is the life of a comedian. So, what's the deal with reviewers who can't read titles?

And BTW, Adams is a tortured human being whose personality would be funny...IF it were an act. YIKES!
