This is a phenomenal lens for the money. I'm an aspiring amateur photographer and this is the lens that is taking me to that next level. Highly recommend it!

I purchased this lens based on the many positive reviews I read. I am not disappointed. It's sharp with excellent DOF! I did not want to spend nearly $500.00 for the af-s, so I'm learning to focus manually with my D40. I'm new at this, so this review is geared more towards those in "my league". Sometimes it's difficult to know what to get when you listen to the "pro's" because they have a whole different standard than us casual shooters.

I recently added the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Af Nikkor Lens to my arsenal and after using it have found it to be a very solid lens. The lens is fast and takes sharp pictures. The only adjustment I had to make using this lens was framing the composition of the photo because of a fixed length. Besides that this lens is a great for low light photography or portrait photography

If your looking for auto focus on the D5000, then this is not for you.
Although, you still get the focus indicator.
Great quality for the price, excellent sharp images.
You can't go wrong here, very happy with purchase.

I cannot say enough about this lens. It is lightning fast with the f1.8. The depth of field is incredible; it really adds a lot of creativity to your bag for a very modest cost.
This lens is well-constructed and solid without being heavy. Whenever I am heading out and want to bring along my camera, I just mount this lens and leave the rest behind. Forget the laziness of a zoom lens and get into the experience!
I have found that I enjoy shooting more with this lens than with the other lenses I have (which are nice lenses). It is truly one of those items you have to try to believe. It performs incredibly with my D80. I'm sure it is the same with all other Nikon bodies.
If you're an amature or just getting into photography, invest in this lens; you will enjoy it so much and really get you excited about shooting.
Good luck, and good shooting!
