Editorial Review:
Product Description: WMF Easy Pour hand blown glass wine decanter. Decanting is the process of pouring wine from a bottle into a carafe and is recommended for red wines. The main reason for this is to separate the clear wine from the deposit at the bottom of the bottle (influencing the quality of the wine). During the transfer the wine comes into contact with oxygen and can develop its bouquet better.
Amazon.com Review: Made of lead-free glass, this classic decanter holds one 750-milliliter bottle of wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this decanter brings elegance to the dinner table. And because it has an indented well in the bottom, steady, careful pouring is possible, as fingers fit securely into the well while the thumb grips atop the decanter's flared base. Standing 9 inches high on a 9-inch-diameter base, the decanter serves beautifully as a vase when it's not being used for wine. --Fred Brack

The decanter really works and it opens up the wine regardless if its an old vintage or a a young wine. You have to somewhat get use to pouring of the wine. When pouring wine into the decanter you need to do it gently else it easily spills out. I also use a wine funnel and it works great. The same goes when pouring the wine off the decanter especially when you getting down to the last glass. You nearly have to tilt the decanter upright to get the last drop out. Overall I am very happy with it for the price I paid. I like to give it 4.5 star but not sure how to add the half star.

I bought an WMF decanter about three years ago and would have rated that one 5 stars. It was beautiful -- wonderful lines, heavy glass, lovely etched WMF at the base, and, most importantly, it worked perfectly to aerate the wine quickly and poured without the tiniest drop spilling down the body of the decanter.
Unfortunately, my original one was broken. I immediately ordered another, but, to my great disappointment, the company had decided to knock off its own product.
The new version has similar but not the same lines (the shape is not nearly so lovely, nor does the indent at the bottom have the same exquisite incline), the glass is thin, and, most importantly, the thing drips, leaving spots on the table cloth and rings on the counter.
I returned the item, which I didn't want to give even a single star but had to because without rating an item a review cannot be posted.
I sorely miss my original WMF easy pour decanter and hope that the company will return to making a product both lovely and functional.
Perhaps if enough customers who bought the original complain the company will again make what was, but no longer is, a marvelous product.

Bought as a gift for someone. They are very happy with it and I got a good price at Amazon. I just dont see the need for crystal decanters unless you have nothing better to spend your money on.

I purchased this decanter based on the many positive reviews, but now I wish I had paid a little more attention to the negative ones. First the pros:
- It's a very wide decanter, giving a lot of surface area to the wine so that aeration is accomplished very easily.
- Very sturdy. You don't get the feeling that it's going to break with the slightest amount of pressure as you do with some other decanters.
- It really is a good looking piece - especially at such a low price.
The Cons:
- Although it says "Easy Pour" and it's designed so that you grasp it by keeping a couple of fingers inside the indentation at the bottom, it does tend to be a little awkward. You'll definitely find yourself using two hands to pour.
- It doesn't empty out! This is the biggie for me. As others have already stated, it is nearly impossible to get the last glass of wine out of this decanter without completely inverting it. And, once it's upside down, I guarantee you've got a bit of a mess on your hands. I just don't understand how such a basic design flaw could've been missed. Or, maybe this is why this particular decanter is so deeply discounted?

This certainly looks nice, and it's fun, but pouring the last glass or two is difficult. The decanter has to be almost completely inverted to empty it. This is not too difficult, but because of the angle, the wine comes out very quickly and can easily spill.
