Wanted a can opener that wouldn't rust. This is still fairly new but seems to be VERY high quality, and it's been through the dishwasher a few times and we are optimistic that the materials are high quality and rusting won't be an issue. Oh yeah, it open cans.

I've gone through so many can openers its silly. But before I replaced them I suffered through the rusty and dull blades which occurs shortly after purchasing the opener. The rust becomes such a problem that I try to refrain from cleaning the opener which is ridiculous since the tops of cans are so incredibly dirty and moreover the food stuff that accumulates over time needs to be cleaned.
This opener is fantastic. Sharp blade that opens with ease, all stainless steel and does not rust. This is the solution. A high quality surgical instrument for your cooking needs. Just get this opener you will not regret it. I promise you.

I had a generic Good Cook brand can opener which I used for several years, after purchasing it from a grocery store. It broke one day, so I stopped by Crate & Barrel to get a lever-action can opener. What a mistake, that thing was terrible. Couldn't even bite into the lip of the can. So I went onto Amazon to find a high quality, long lasting can opener. After reading the other reviews, I settled on this WMF steel opener.
Of course the first detail that drew my attention was the WMF brand. They make a lot of high quality kitchen tools, and this is no exception. The tactile feel of the can opener is amazing; the grips are solid and very substantial, definitely quality here. The construction is entirely stainless steel; unfortunately the rotating knob is plastic, but it's a very nice piece of plastic.
When I opened my first can, I couldn't believe how easily the can opener cut into the lip. I thought that perhaps the can opener hadn't properly gripped the can and was just gliding on the top; this thing opens cans like a hot knife through butter. It looks sophisticated and looks very nicely in the kitchen too.

Got this can opener about a month ago. So far very pleased with the ease it opens cans, much easier to turn than any opener that I ever had. Just for the fun of it I put a magnet to the cutter and gears and it stuck. which means the cutter blade and 2 gears are not stainless steel. Mine has not rusted yet but I'll now be watching very closely.
