Editorial Review:

Description:
George P. Cosmatos presents the Director's Cut of his incredibly popular TOMBSTONE, the action-packed, star-studded western that brings the legendary feud between the Earps and the Clantons to life. Former U.S. Marshall Wyatt Earp's (Kurt Russell) plan for peace, quiet, and prosperity misfires when he, his brothers, and the outrageous rogue Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) encounter that ruthless band of outlaws, the Clantons. Gripping performances and explosive action fill the screen in this legendary western about Tombstone and the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Amazon.com:
This Western has become a modest cult favorite since its release in 1993, when the film was met with mixed reviews but the performances of Kurt Russell (as Wyatt Earp) and especially Val Kilmer, for his memorably eccentric performance as the dying gunslinger Doc Holliday, garnered high praise. The movie opens with Wyatt Earp trying to put his violent past behind him, living happily in Tombstone with his brothers and the woman (Dana Delany) who puts his soul at ease. But a murderous gang called the Cowboys has burst on the scene, and Earp can't keep his gun belt off any longer. The plot sounds routine, and in many ways it is, but Western buffs won't mind a bit thanks to a fine cast and some well-handled action on the part of Rambo director George P. Cosmatos, who has yet to make a better film than this. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Director's Cut "A Western's Western!"
Tombstone - The Director's Cut (Vista Series) As opposed to the DVD Tombstone which is a single DVD cased in a black box contianer, the "Director's Cut" provides us with a wonderful "Silhouette-Beige" Earthtone - Double-folding Jacket which contains two (2) DVD's. Wow! Next, this double-folding jacket slides into a TOMBSTONE color-portfolio box! The earthtone colors are simply amazing to view; I was so moved by the professional artistry that it took me almost an entire hour to cease reviewing its breath taking beauty.
Once inside the jacket, one discovers a continuing theme of this same earthtone artistry. Director George A. Cosmatos provides us with surprize after surprize and his cut answers one of the most lingering unanswered questions that the regular single DVD encased in black doesn't address -- "What ever happened to Kate, Doc Holiday's woman?? If one recalls that once Doc Holiday has entered the sanitarium, Kate is nowhere to be found! Well the Director's Cut provides a answer but beware the answer will "shock" you! I didn't mention the hand drawn map of the shoot-out at the "OK" Corral that is drawn in Wyatt Earp's own hand. (opps!) The Director's Cut is well worth the price but I could not bring myself to purchase a "used" copy - no way! Better get your own Director's Cut - ". . . the last ride of Wyatt Earp and his immortals!" I'm your Huckleberry!"! Dr. Charles L. Vaughn

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Movie Ever Made
Love the DVD. My VCR tape finally wore out. I can really understand the words better- much clearer than the tape.
This is a must have in every home if you like a good action packed movie that has serious moments, good laughs and great lines about how to think about life and living in it.
Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell and Sam Elliott at their best.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Epic movie making
In my humble opinion, Tombstone is one of the best westerns made. I wasn't looking for a history lesson, I can watch the history channel for that. I was looking for movie entertainment at it's hyperbolic best. Every character; the good, the bad, the ugly are over the top. This movie is fun. I watched Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp and was continually yawning. I loved the portrayal of Curly Bill in Tombstone, just capital. Ringo is intellectually maniacal. And dear Ike, as dufus as he is, he's practical. This is western mythology and story telling at its best. A factual history lesson, no; a grand cinematic yarn, resoundingly, yes!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tombstone the definitive western story
Becoming if not already a classic tale of Wyatt Earp and his family and friends. Excellent cast and outstanding performances. A truly moving and sometimes shocking view into the "wild" west and beyond.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Political Correctness In The Old West
Didn't know how Feministic the women were in the old West, or how open society was to bi-sexuality. Plently of unsubtle dabbling in these themes - although anachronism is part of the B+ movie lexicon.
The best moment comes from the very sensuous, under-appreciated actor Dana Delany: she steps off the Coach as she arrives in town and shares a rapturous, prolonged glance with Kurt Russell (Wyatt Earp). Her close-up is enough to wake Truman Capote (All due respect...).
Val Kilmer does okay as Doc Holliday - I think he might have unconsciously refereced Brando in "Mutiny On The Bounty", but here he seems slighlty less interested in the fairer sex. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Cinematography is excellent and the picture is well-paced.
