Editorial Review:

Product Description:
President John J.

Amazon.com:
Delenn's future love interest, Captain John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) arrived on Babylon 5 in the first episode of season 2, "Points of Departure." The show marked the handing over of command of B5 to Sheridan from Commander Jeffery Sinclair, actor Michael O'Hare becoming a victim of studio politicians who wanted a bigger star in the leading role. This excellent installment also revealed more about why the Minbari surrendered to Earth at the Battle of the Line when they were on the verge of victory. "Revelations" explains that Sheridan's wife, Anna, died during an archaeological survey of the world Z'ha'dum, the name being just one of many references to Tolkien's the Lord of the Rings (the bridge at Khazad-Dum). "The Geometry of Shadows" introduced the Technomages, characters who featured more significantly in the ill-fated spinoff series Crusade (1999), while "The Coming of Shadows" proved to be Babylon 5's finest hour to date. The story of political intrigue foreshadowing the fate of two of the major characters beat Apollo 13, Toy Story, 12 Monkeys, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "The Visitor" to win the Hugo award for Best Dramatic Presentation at the 1996 World Science Fiction Convention and proved so powerful that J. Michael Straczynski included it in his Complete Book of Scriptwriting.

"And Now for a Word" took the unusual step of presenting a day-in-the-life of B5 seen through the eyes of a TV news crew, just as the Narn declared war on the Centauri. The inclusion of a PSI-Corps commercial paid homage to Paul Verhoeven's satirical ads in Robocop (1987), while his later Starship Troopers (1997) seemed at times like a spoof of B5's earnest space opera. In "In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum," Sheridan learns that Morden was on the ship on which Anna died; the episode sees the captain pushed to his limits by grief and determination to discover why Morden survived. Three exceptional shows conclude the season. The Narn-Centauri war escalates in "The Long, Twilight Struggle," Sheridan faces a most unusual ordeal in "Comes the Inquisitor," and in "The Fall of Night" all hope of peace is shattered as a nerve-racking assassination attempt reveals a startling secret about Ambassador Kosh. --Gary S. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Babylon 3th season
Bought these to complete my collection of the TV series. The box and disk were in great shape.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Show, spotty quality
I'll get the bad things out of the way first. First of all, as we all know, the space scenes seem like they were generated on a video game. Oddly, a number of indoor scenes, at least on my copy, seemed kind of blurry and fuzzy until the camera zoomed in. Second, as much as I always loved Captain Sheridan when I started watching the show on TV originally in its 3rd year, it seems kind of jarring to see him in the role after watching the whole first season on DVD and liking Sinclair. It takes at least half of the episodes to get really used to him, and even by the end, it seems like his comfort on the job seems a little forced.

Those and a few other small things aside, this is a great show that seems to do a wonderful job of weaving together individual stories and an intriguing story arc. Each episode has its own entertaining or thought-provoking themes, while at the same time keeping you on the edge of your seat as far as the long-term storyline goes. In this particular season, we finally get some solid leads on where the series is going and who the major players will be. At times it seems like the overall plot moves slowly, only to give way to quick advances, like the whole Narn-Centauri war playing out in just a few episodes. Overall though, it comes out feeling about right. I especially like the character development among almost all of the major and minor characters, with the one notable exception being Na'toth, the Narn ambassador's assistant.

In any case, this season is well-worth buying, and I'm sure most people will be hooked enough to keep watching the next seasons.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Different Captain, Faster Pace, Better Series

The plot thickens with season 2. We get to see Delenn transform. Bruce Boxleitner takes command. Michael O'Hare (Sinclair) moves on to better things. It was a setback at first not to see him. However Bruce does fill the role of Captain quite well. The season sets play better without the commercials and as a fan the story flows much better. I was taken aback at how complex the story became. It is still good to watch a second time around on DVD. All the cast members have a role, unlike another sci fi franchise, the roles are better defined this season.

Points of Departure is forty-four minutes long and originally aired on November 2, 1994. This is the first episode of season two in the Babylon 5 saga. Season two begins with Captain John J. Sheridan commanding the Omega class starship EAS Agamemnon at the Mars colony when he receives a message from General William Hague telling him that he is being re-assigned to Babylon 5 as the new commander. Once at Babylon 5 he is met by Lieutenant Commander Susan Ivanova who surrenders command over to Captain Sheridan. Lieutenant Commander Ivanova informs that captain of the situation at Babylon 5. In the middle of his good luck speech a Minbari leader of the Grey Council meets with Captain Sheridan and Lieutenant Commander Ivanova and informs them that Kalain of the Trigati is on Babylon 5. Hedronn tells the captain to capture Kakain and hand him over the Minbari. Captain Sheridan finds Kalain in Ambassador Delenn's quarters. Soon after Kalain captures the Minbari Sharlin Class Warcruiser the Trigati comes through the jump gate. The Trigati is trying to provoke the station into an attack. Instead of attacking the Trigati, Sheridan sends a message to another Minbari warcruiser comes through the jump gate. The other warcruiser disables the Trigati and tell it to surrender. Rather then surrender the Trigati gathers its Starfuries and the ship self destruct killing all members of the Trigati. At the end of the episode Captain Sheridan delivers his good luck speech. We also learn in this episcope why Commander Jeffrey Sinclair was transferred to Minbari, why Captain John J. Sheridan was transferred to Babylon 5, and why the Minbari surrender at the Battle of the Line. Points of Departure get an AAAA++++.

Revelations is forty-three minutes long and originally aired on November 9, 1994. There are several stories going on in this episode at once so there is a lot of jumping around. So instead of trying to tell the whole story from start to finish, I will just highlight the stories. G'Kar arrives back from Quadrant 37 and tells the League of Non-Aligned Worlds Advisory Council that on certain planets that have been dead for over a thousand years that life is on them and that the darkness has return. G'Kar informs the Advisory Council that Narn is sending a ship to Z'ha'dum to investigate. When the ship arrives it is destroyed. This is the first time that Z'ha'dum is mention is the series. Ambassador Delenn finally emerges from her cocoon and is half human and half Minbari. With the aid of an alien healing machine Michael Garibaldi awakens from his coma. He asks Talia Winters, the station's telepath, to scan his mind to see if he can find the person who shot him. It was Mr. Garibaldi's second in command that shot him in the back. The second in command is capture and sent back to Earth for trial. On the way back home he escapes. Captain Sheridan's sister Elizabeth Sheridan arrives for a visit. It is here we find out the Captain Sheridan is a widower and his wife Anna died on an Interplanetary Expeditions mission. John had long blamed himself for his wife death. Elizabeth finally reveals to her brother is a data crystal that Anna was going on the mission anyhow and did not tell John. This episode leads a few peaks and explanations into future episodes. Revelations gets an AAA+++.

The Geometry of Shadows is forty-three minutes and thirty seconds long and originally aired on November 16, 1994. You have mainly two stories going on at once. First Lieutenant Commander Susan Ivanova is promoted to Commander and as her first task as Commander she is to find a peaceful solution to the Drazi conflict. Every five years the Drazi have a civil war. They are split into two factions; Purple Drazi and Green Drazi. It is unclear why they have a civil war every five years. Who ever emerges from the conflict is the ruling party for the next five years. The fights have gotten out hand. Commander Ivanova first tries to settle things by bringing both parties together to find a peaceful solution and try to understand the nature of the conflict. Things do not go well on the first try and she winds up breaking her foot. On her second attempt she is captured by the Green Drazis and is used as bait to kill Purple Drazis. However Mr. Garibaldi comes to the rescue and frees Susan. When they meet up with Green Drazis, Susan takes the sash of the leader and the Green Drazis declare her the leader. When she find out why she is the leader she sends the Green Drazis to the supply room ... Read More
