Editorial Review:
Product Description: HIS DAYS AS AN INTELLIGENCE AGENT BEHIND HIM, FORMER CIA ANALYST, JACK RYAN HAS TRAVELED TO LONDON TO VACATION WITH HIS WIFE & CHILD. MEETING HIS FAMILY OUTSIDE OF BUCKINGHAM PALACE RYAN IS CAUGHT IN A TERRORIST ATTACK. HE THWARTS THE ATTCK BUT BECOMES A TARGET HIMSELF. NOW HE MUST SAVE HIS FAMILY.
Amazon.com essential video: Let's see--he's been Han Solo in three films and Indiana Jones in three more. So why shouldn't Harrison Ford take on a new continuing character in Tom Clancy's CIA analyst Jack Ryan? In this film, directed by Phillip Noyce, Ford picked up the baton when Alec Baldwin, who played Ryan in The Hunt for Red October, opted for a Broadway role instead. In this film, Ryan and his family are on vacation when Ryan saves a member of the British royal family from attack by Irish terrorists. The next thing he knows, the Ryan clan has been targeted by the same terrorists, who invade his Maryland home. The film can't shed all of Clancy's lumbering prose, or his techno-dweeb fascination with spy satellites and the like. But no one is better than Ford at righteous heroism--and Sean Bean makes a suitably snakey villain. --Marshall Fine

Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones & Samuel L. Jackson star in "Patriot Games," a thriller based on the best-selling novel by Tom Clancy ("The Hunt For Red October"). The film is very well-paced, though I wish the screenwriter had included a scene with Sally suggesting names for-SPOILER!!!-Cathy's baby. The action scenes were well handled, and the suspense deftly crafted. Sean Bean is also terrific. I recommend this film to fans of action flicks, Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. Should have been rated PG-13 for mild language and some violence.

I love the movie and this was a great price. Good quality DVD. Thank you!

There are FLASHES OF LIGHT throughout this BLU-RAY! Annoying white ghosting/flashes in dark areas of the screen, especially during some low-lit indoor scenes near the beginning. Too bad, because this movie ranks in my top 12 favorite movies - A classic suspense thriller.

I've seen this movie a number of times, and it is a very good adaptation of Tom Clancy's novel. There is some violence, but it is not gratuitous or over the top as in many movies. However, as a number of reviewers have noted, the quality of the video in this Blu-Ray disc leaves a lot to be desired (thus 4 stars instead of 5). Although I did not see exactly the same problems that other reviewers saw, there were intermittent vertical ghost lines throughout the movie. It is not terribly distracting, and my wife says she would not have noticed had I not commented on it, but in my opinion, there is just no excuse for this less than optimal video. When you pay the premium for Blu-Ray, you should get top-notch video quality. Nevertheless, the movie itself is well worth watching.

When I received this Blue-ray disc, I was disappointed to see that I cannot play it on my 2-year old, top of the line, Sony DVD player until I go to Sony's website and install a firm-ware update on my DVD. I haven't had time to do it yet, so I don't even know if it's possible, but something to think about before you buy.
