![]() Rating: - Curb Your EnthusiasmHilarious. You can see that Larry David was the genius behind the Seinfeld series. Rating: - Like Seinfeld, But with West Coast, Spouses and SwearingThis is the funniest show on television. However because of its nature, few people know about it. It is on HBO, which allows it to be as bold as it has to be, but it also reduces the number of possible viewers. The other reason is the show is built like a house of cards, that invariably comes crashing down at the end. This is not a show that you can flip on ten minutes in. Everything builds and builds until it explodes in a burst of comic delight. The final reason why this show is not as well known is that it is very 'acidic'. Larry and the cast do not pull any punches, and the situations Larry gets in are often uncomfortable, but well worth the time. As each episode progresses the mostly improvisational dialogue becomes more refined and fluid, which means the show only gets better with time. About the DVD: The DVD is fine, it includes the "HBO Special" that inspired the series, however the audio commentary is sparse, and each episode is 1 chapter, so there is no skipping ahead in an episode, you just have to watch the whole thing. T Rating: - Side splitting hilariousI purchased this DVD for my mom as a gift. I'm a big fan of Larry David and recently turned my mom onto the show. Needless to say she is hooked. I will definitely be purchasing all of them on DVD. He is undeniably one of the best comedians out there! Rating: - Hilarious! This is Larry David's humor at its finest! If you were a fan of Seinfeld, especially when Larry David was still writing a lot of the material, then you will love Curb Your Enthusiasm. Rating: - At times hillarious - At times reeeeally "inside humour"Well, who would think that Larry David is by me considered one of the funniest guys on the planet, knowing my "politics"?! Indeed he is, though! In an age where humour is mostly on the level of "Friends", it is hard to find any show that is worth to waste some time with. This show, though, can make me laugh so hard my fiancée sometimes looks at me strangely. It has its very dull moments too, not to mention that the show is (obviously) as Jewish as a show can get. Everything is there, the extreme "liberal/leftist" political opinions, the references to Jewish secular culture and mannerisms constantly, the anti-gentile tone and of course, the trophy "shiksa" wife of Mister David himself. That being said, (although it is of course not 100 % real, being a show and all) it offers very fascinating insights into a culture that is closed for us slow-witted gentiles, at the same time that it is a very self-ironic show. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the show is really "anti-gentile" or something like that, it is more "anti-Jewish" if anything, considering how it makes fun of them. The show kicks both "Left" and "Right", and like South Park is really a show for every "side". The "pathetic" figure of Jerry Lewis, and his interplay with Larry David, not to mention the no-spine manager of theirs; Jeff, really makes this one of the funniest and most surreal shows out there. I laugh onto the floor in every scene including either of these two characters, and especially while they fight Mister David. Watch the episodes "The Bracelet" and "The Group", and if you don't die with laughter, this show is not for you at all. Beware, that there is nothing holy in the world of Larry David, but he's quite open about it, so not really the usual "hidden agendas" here. The end of the episode "The Group" is so funny it probably ranks among the funniest scenes ever made. The extra material is really thin, though, one commented episode and that is basically it; weak. 4 stars. |
