Amazon.com: It's more of the same for Larry David's sitcom from HBO, and for fans, that's a good thing. The show--largely extemporized--follows suit of David's former series, Seinfeld: it's a show about nothing, just the everyday life of the star going about his pseudo-real world. But David's show has far more edge (thanks, in part, to airing on cable TV) with all the bad luck, embarrassing situations, and dreadful behavior as its premiere season. The closest thing to an arc is David's season-long pitch to the networks for a new show starring former Seinfeld stars Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Each network is lampooned, especially HBO, which David has a bad history with in this alternate world. Sure to repel those with soft funny bones, Curb's acerbic comedy allows jokes where David is accidentally framed--if ever so briefly--as a child molester, wife abuser, or murderer. But for those who do love his shtick, there are big laughs, especially when we bump into characters as unbridled as David, like a fellow writer who is quite protective of his dad's invention, the Cobb salad.
Many comic actors pop up, some as "themselves" (Richard Lewis, Rob Reiner) and others as characters (Rita Wilson, Ed Asner) along with the delights of co-stars Cheryl Hines as David's wife and his affable manger, Jeff Garlin. There are several touchstone bits: what a thong brief can do to a relationship, a run-in with pro wrestler, Larry's first baptism, and one very collectible doll. To pick one episode to capture this second season--and its grandstanding nature--it would be "Shaq," in which the NBA star is accidentally tripped, changing David's usual bad luck with gut-busting results. --Doug Thomas

Well, who would think that Larry David is by me considered one of the funniest guys on the planet, knowing my "politics"?! Indeed he is, though! In an age where humour is mostly on the level of "Friends", it is hard to find any show that is worth to waste some time with. This show, though, can make me laugh so hard my fiancée sometimes looks at me strangely. It has its very dull moments too, not to mention that the show is (obviously) as Jewish as a show can get. Everything is there, the extreme "liberal/leftist" political opinions, the references to Jewish secular culture and mannerisms constantly, the anti-gentile tone and of course, the trophy "shiksa" wife of Mister David himself. That being said, (although it is of course not 100 % real, being a show and all) it offers very fascinating insights into a culture that is closed for us slow-witted gentiles, at the same time that it is a very self-ironic show. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the show is really "anti-gentile" or something like that, it is more "anti-Jewish" if anything, considering how it makes fun of them. The show kicks both "Left" and "Right", and like South Park is really a show for every "side".
The "pathetic" figure of Jerry Lewis, and his interplay with Larry David, not to mention the no-spine manager of theirs; Jeff, really makes this one of the funniest and most surreal shows out there. I laugh onto the floor in every scene including either of these two characters, and especially while they fight Mister David. Every episode in this season is hillarious, perhaps except "The Thong" and "Shaq", which I found somewhat disgusting and boring. The whole Jason Alexander-thing is also quite dull, and should have been left out of an otherwise brilliant season. Beware, that there is nothing holy in the world of Larry David, but he's quite open about it, so not really the usual "hidden agendas" here. The extra material is really thin, though, I found nothing on this season at all. 4 stars.

Curb is basically a continuation of Seinfeld... if you love Seinfeld, you'll absolutely love Curb.
Larry David = George, and HBO gave Curb the oppertunity for longer R rated shows.

A friend of mine let me watch this program at his house. I had never heard of it and thought it was super. They wanted over $30 per season at the stores. I found season 1 and 2 on Amazon for a tad over $3o with free shipping and they were new. What a deal, and I really love them.

This is the worst show ever produced - taking advantage of Seinfeld fans misguided loyalty, and the wrongful thought, that since this is made by Larry Davis, it has to be good... it don't!
After a couple of episodes (if you actually get this deep into it before throwing away the dvd's) you realise that the dialogue actually follows the same structure and speech patterns that Seinfeld does - only this show has no proper actors or comedians to deliver the lines.
It's stiff, slow, tries to hard but keeps on failing, annoying, embarrassing and quite frankly a disaster.
I have no idea who these guys are that gives this 5 stars, but they have to be family of Larry's.
I bought the entire series based on the stupid 5 star reviews and the fact that I too thought that 'Larry Davis, this can only be good' - but I've had to through the dvd's out without even seeing all the episodes.
Waste of time and money!!!
