How pleasantly surprised I was to find this little gem. I really have no idea who this band is or what they are about, yet I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album.
Minmae really embodies the qualities that I look for in an "indie band": creative, willing to experiment with disonance. In fact, there is a certain element of their style which reminds me a smidge of Sonic Youth, but a bit more melodic. They also have this almost Southern Fried Strokes-ish feel to them that reminds me a bit of Kings of Leon.
I'm glad I took a chance on Minmae. If I see them roll through town I'm going to check them out live. They have some power chords ripping through their stuff ("I Was Buoyant") along with some straight up clever rocking numbers ("Circumspect. I Follow It") as well as some low key feel good stuff ("Just Take Me As I Am"). And the lead singer has a sweet lilt and an endearingly just-south-of-in-tune tone to his voice that I just adore.
