Amazon.com essential video:
From The Terminator to Titanic, you can always rely on writer-director James Cameron to show you something you've never seen on the big screen before. The guy may not consistently pen the most scintillating dialogue in the world (and, especially in this movie, he doesn't seem to have a particularly high regard for women), but as a director of kinetic, push-the-envelope action sequences, he is in a class by himself. In True Lies, the highlight is a breathtaking third-act jet and car chase through the Florida Keys. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a covert intelligence agent whose wife of 15 years (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally finds out that he's not really a computer salesman and who becomes mixed up in a case involving nuclear arms smuggling. Tom Arnold is surprisingly funny and engaging as Schwarzenegger's longtime spy partner, and Bill Paxton is a smarmy used-car salesman (is that redundant?) whom Arnold thinks is having an affair with his wife. Purely in terms of spectacular action and high-tech hardware, True Lies is a blast. --Jim Emerson

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - I thought this was downright stupid
I am very choosy with my Schwartznegger movies, and this was the worst. It's even worse than "The Terminator". I guess I had a hard time with the double life of a computer salesman, and being a spy. I couldn't keep up, and then there's the double life of the computer salesman's wife with the used car salesman. However, the action scenes while thrilling were hard to believe. I just feel that they overdid this movie, and it's just terrible. I also found it humilating when they made the used car salesman pee himself. Was that suppossed to be funny? I just didn't like this movie, and perfer the movie "Eraser" over this. At least with "Eraser" it was more intelligent.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Oldie?
This movie is kind of old.
I like watching it again sometimes.
Nice to have in the library.
Great action scenes!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A really funny movie!
This was one of the funniest movies. It probably helps that I like Arnold. I think the story line was great although it may have gotten a bit cheesy towards the end. Still very worth watching.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun & Memorable; Where's The Blu-Ray?
Boy, I haven't seen this in quite a while but I did watch it several times in the mid '90s and usually was thoroughly entertained. It's pretty long at 141 minutes but I don't remember anyone ever complaining they were bored watching this. The combination of spectacular action scenes and humor made this a big hit.

I'm surprised this has not come out on Blu-Ray yet (as of June, 2009).

Tom Arnold has the best part in here with light-hearted humor, albeit on the sleazy side (no surprise, there!). Speaking of "Arnold," there's Schwarnegger giving us one of his better performances, and Jamie Lee Curtis doing what she does best: showing us her incredible body.

This film has the standard too-long action ending and has some parts that are so outrageous that you almost have to laugh out loud. Then again, a lot of this story is tongue-in-cheek so a lot of the absurdity here fits.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - needs to come out on blu ray already!
this movie is still one of the best produced by cameron and arnold. so much so in fact, that it makes his output post true lies seem really bad in comparison. me and tom arnold are praying for true lies 2.
