Editorial Review:
Product Description: Cast iron construction provides even heat distribution for best cooking results and adds nutrition and flavor to food. Extremely durable and easy to clean. Dutch oven with cast iron lid. Natural finish. 5 quart, 10 1 4" diameter, depth 4". Made in U.S.A.
Amazon.com Review: The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.
At 10-1/4 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep, this 5-quart Dutch oven holds a heap of chili, chicken and rice, or fruit cobbler. This model is not the campfire style, with legs, wire handle, and a lid for coals. This one is flat-bottomed to sit on a stovetop burner or in the oven, with a domed lid that sends moisture back into the pot. Loop handles aid in carrying with oven mitts. While the Dutch oven comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. --Ann Bieri

I can't be more pleased with a purchase! I've been wanting a Dutch Oven for years, but haven't wanted to spend the money for a top of the line model, like many of my friends swear by. And, I really wanted to find an oval shape for a wider browning surface. I was skeptical about handling such a heavy pot - I'm really not a fan of cast iron for that reason. I took a chance because of the price and the good reviews. I've been making osso bucco in a regular stove-top -to -oven deep frying pan and knew I needed something better. So far we've loved everything I've made in it - osso bucco (2 different recipes), various chicken dishes, and stews. My pot roast and then braised lamb shanks will be next, over the holidays. You have to read the directions thoroughly for first use and cleaning because it is pre-seasoned - really easier than I thought. The handles are easy to grip, it is well-balanced and the size is wonderful so far. I browned in 2 batches but it perfectly braised with one piece on top of another. I'll be using it for everything I make in my 3 and a half quart crock-pot when I need larger quantities, shorter cook / braise time and am home. And I love the traditional cast iron color - didn't have to decide on some color that really wouldn't have matched my other cookware anyway. I'll comment more after I have it longer.

First of all the Lodge dutch oven is made in the USA. It is an awesome cast iron piece of cookware. Tight fitting lid, flat bottom and pre-seasoned. Cast iron is my favorite cookware to use. If a person learns how to use and properly clean the cookware, cast iron will be the choice for many cooks. Regardless if using in oven or on stove top cast iron is versatile and many foods will have a new better taste. Cast iron has been around longer than any other cookware, maybe there is good reason why.

I've used it for stews and baking bread, and have had no problems or complaints! It holds up well from stove to oven, cleans easily (hot water and brush, followed by a light coating of oil), and does wonders for my biceps.

This pan was at my doorstep in less than 4 business days with supersaver shipping! The pan weighs 13 lbs. It is beautiful...in the words of a cook. I saved the brochure so I can purchase more cast iron from this company. In addition to the fine quality was inexpensive and a great value....

After reading the rave reviews here, I thought that I would love this item. But I didn't and wound up returning it. First of all, when I received the item, I noticed that there was some rust on the cover. It did seem to be built pretty solidly and was pretty heavy. I then tested it out by boiling some rice. It did seem to heat pretty evenly, however, I noticed a heavy metallic taste to the rice. The rice was swiftly discarded as I didn't think it was safe to eat.
