Product Description: The Targus Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video is the first USB based docking station with true video output capabilities. This "One Touch" interface allows users to quickly and easily connect to an external monitor, keyboard, Ethernet, mouse, printer, speakers or other devices in a manner of seconds. This product is also the first docking station to allow users to connect through a single USB connection. The Universal Docking Station provides greater flexibility to commercial users and consumers because it is not notebook platform dependent. It provides a low cost alternative to traditional OEM docking stations and port replicators. When the notebook is placed on top of the docking station, its unique shape provides a more comfortable typing position and allows for better cooling of the notebook. Another factor unique to Targus' Docking Station is the "Always On" capability. A button on the back of the device allows two of the four USB ports to always have power, whether the notebook is powered down or in sleep mode. It allows USB devices plugged into the docking station to continually have power or to recharge. A great use for the "Always On" feature is to continuously charge devices such as mice, phones or PDAs. Targus' four USB ports are also adapter friendly, meaning they are spaced twice as far apart as typical to allow any size of adapter to be plugged into the port.

I blame Targus for the problem, not the vendor. The refurbished docking station came without the instruction manual and also without the driver CD. The video port wasn't working either. I had to contact the vendor twice before they finally emailed me the return authorization.

Stay away from this product. Targus is awful. I have tried multiple times to get this docking station to work. Finally, after many attempts, I was successful. However, it only functioned for a short time - since once I took my laptop elsewhere I could never get it reconfigured! Some may believe we should all be computer technicians and know a priori how to get a product to work. But that is not the point - we deserve as customers to have a product function easily, at least comparatively - and honestly, do we all have time to be technicians? I certainly pay too much for many products for this to be the case. Most importantly, this product does not meet normal standards for functionality, ease of use and customer service.
So I agree with the prior reviews: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Targus is awful. To attempt any contact with customer service will only result in complete frustration. Believe me, I tried. And forget about the website - you will get lost in a continuous loop.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Targus. I will never purchase a thing from this company again!

I was looking for a product to use with our Headless Computer, once the Docking Station was setup, I was able to disconnec the display and use it with voice and button commands, with this product, I was able to get video with Mouse and Keyboard on the fly to reconfigure the computer, excellent product, I bought a few.

We have had nothing but trouble with the ACP50US. Returned it to the store twice for another; all THREE have the same issues with Vista Premium. Downloaded all the new driver releases and "3" calls to Targus. "IT'S NOT OUR PRODUCT!" was their response. Video for an external monitor did not hold AND has to be reset EACH time you reboot the laptop; the network card drivers keep trying to update as their are "incompatible with Vista" per the "Problem Reports" in Vista....my antivirus program can't update unless I unplug the network card and plug it directly into the laptop. Then it works. SEEMS LIKE A WASTE OF $129. AND TARGUS SUPPORT SUCKS!

My intention was to use this with a Lenovo U110 (which has a widescreen 1366x768). I hooked it up to a regular monitor (1280x1040) and they just could not talk to each other properly. I have use Lenovo's own brand USB port replicator with the same laptop/monitor combo and it works perfectly.
The biggest problem is that the driver does not seem to recognize when the USB is unplugged from the laptop, and this is especially dangerous when you are in the "display primary only on external" mode, selected from the task-bar icon. I had the laptop set up so I could work with the lid closed. I then put the laptop to sleep with the monitor connected. I woke it up without the monitor connected, and the native laptop screen was black - the targus software didn't "let go" of the screen and return it to the laptop's own screen. The only way out of this is a forced re-boot (not good if you have windows open when you put the computer to sleep). The Lenovo port replicator costs a lot more ($[...]), but it doesn't have this issue.
Regarding overall performance, it would best be described as "laggy" - certainly not recommended for gaming/graphics/animation. In addition it would only support 16-bit color, not full color 32, so it cannot display the windows aero features in Vista.
One final criticism - it does not "remember" the settings. This is silly because the whole point is to walk into the room, slap down your laptop, plug in a USB, and get working. Having to re-configure the monitor every single time is a royal pain in the ****.
The only salvation is that I bought this on [...], and only paid $[...] for it, so I can safely dump it at a yard sale. It sure-as-hell isn't worth the $[...] MSRP.
