Editorial Review:
Description: LAGUNA BEACH: THE REAL ORANGE COUNTY -- It’s one of the wealthiest, most beautiful communities in the world and MTV has unlimited access to the tight-knit power clique of eight rich, beautiful teenagers that live there. Their lives intertwine in ways you won’t believe, until you drop in for a visit. Watch as these friends share experiences through parties, relationships, love triangles and small town injustices. This is where the angst and the tumultuous affairs are the stuff of prime time drama – except this is all REAL. Welcome to Paradise, otherwise known as Laguna Beach, California.
Amazon.com: Branded as 'The real Orange County,' this tepid yet easily addictive MTV series follows a group of wealthy high schoolers from Laguna Beach, California. Their lives are almost too perfect to be real: good looks, houses by the beach, even close relationships with their parents. They shop, plan parties, and get brand-new cars wrapped in a bow for graduation (and you thought that only happened in commercials!). But it's a reality show packaged as a teen soap.
At the center of season 1 is the love triangle between good-girl narrator LC, her childhood friend Stephen, and his beautiful but cold girlfriend Kristin, who likes to mention at any chance possible how much she 'hates' LC. Other highlights for the seniors include spring break in Cabo, birthday bashes, one character's embarrassing audition for a Broadway show, and the repetitive mantra of 'Can you believe this is the last time we'll be together like this?'
One's envy of young rich kids who are just like you--but not--is certainly what Laguna Beach likes to tap into (you find out they even have weekly O.C. viewing parties!). Unfortunately, it's also what makes it so vanilla. Since there aren't producers auditioning the most colorful personalities to home-grow drama, you're left with pals so alike you get them confused. Not only that, their 'conflicts'--limited to gossip and drunk confrontations--don't really make for great television, at least by the reality-TV standards we're used to. But kids who thrive on the gossip of their own friends will likely continue chatting about this show like it's their own high school.
DVD features include an MTV cribs-type tour of LC's massive mansion (still being built in season 1) and many deleted scenes, which include the technical glitch that got Morgan into BYU (see? It's not just money) and Trey's argument with a midget. --Ellen Kim

Rating: - My Guilty Pleasure
I have always enjoyed this series, and have both seasons on DVD, as well as all of The Hills. The DVD is definitely worth buying if you're into the show.
I recently wrote a paper for a communications class about the show and how it tells us how to behave according to our gender roles. The show is quite stereotypical, and the cast is full of rich, white, straight, beautiful people. For some, that is its appeal, along with the pretty scenery. Surprisingly, I still like the show. There is something comforting in watching it. Perhaps it is the knowledge that compared to them I am down-to-earth and not shallow. I'm still not sure.
Rating: - For those who want to remember the series that started it all...
Reminisce back to the first season of "Laguna Beach", when the O.C. was the hot show and it was way before Heidi and Spencer of "The Hills".
The first season revolves around the love triangle between Lauren "LC" (who narrates the first season), Stephen (the guy she likes and had a short fling with) and Kristin (Stephen's girlfriend). Needless to say, LC and Kristin hate each other's guts.
The show also features their friends and the teen angst that they are going through. From high school activities, trying to get grades enough to graduate, preparing for prom, trying to get into college and spring break in Cabo.
Where most shows have covered the struggles of teen angst and financial challenges, Laguna Beach: The Real OC gives viewers a different perspective through their lives and what the affluent and popular teens of that city do for fun and how they live their lives.
As for the DVD, all eleven episodes from the first season is featured.
The video quality is very good showcasting the brilliant colors of the shoreline, the surf to sunsets.
As for audio, audio is in stereo but if there is one major complaint, its that some of the music has been changed for the DVD release.
One of the highlights of Laguna Beach is the use of current popular music at that time.
From Yellowcard, Maroon 5 to the Black Eyesd Peas. The music really enhanced ... Read More
Rating: - Ugh......
Alrighty...so I bought this item at a decent price, so I can't complain about that but I could not even get through the third episode...the girls are EXTREMELY annoying with their whiny little snobbish voices...ugh...I couldn't stand it!!! It's more like a soap opera. I have enough drama in my own life...I definately don't need to be watching people who create drama purposely!
Rating: - What is the world coming to?
Damn, this show is even more boring than Big Brother. How can anyone like this load of feces? Who wants to see a bunch of spoilt little rich brats going shopping? BORING. I watched around 5 minutes of this show and I almost fell asleep. I can understand why Channel 10 axed this godawful show after only a couple of months here in Australia.
Anyone who thinks this is reality has been fooled - none of the actors use their real names and everything they say is scripted. How about putting on a show with people in a disadvantaged position who actually have to work hard for their success instead of glorifying laziness and stupidity? Oh no, we can't do that, it might actually teach kids to work hard and appreciate what they've got!!! Well, I can understand why the media doesn't want that to happen - fashion trends and pop culture thrive off the laziness and stupidity of the average young person. The fact that this show was even aired speaks volumes about the rampant stupidity present in our society. We can only hope that all the people in this show die from a drug overdose.
Rating: - Lagunna Beach is the best
I love watching this show all the drama, fighting, backstabbing and whinning. I already own season 2 and recently purchased season 1. This show for me is my soap operas, I would rather watch LB then I would days of our lives or passions. I don't get the point of the one's who are dogging the show, it ain't like you have to watch it and you shouldn't be dogging the ones who do. I am married and have two kids and my kids love it just as much as i do and they ain't but 6 & 8 years old. I would recommend any one to buy it. Don't lission to all the bad viewers comments watch it for yourself and do it with a open mind. There are many rich and poor people in ever state and country in this world, the cast of LB ain't no different. Everyone has rich, stuck up, snobbing brats that live right around thim, but that ain't no reason to hate thim. If your jealous because you don't have a life style like they do then you are the immature one. I really fill sorry for the ones that has nothing better to do then set back and dog other people for what they have or don't have.
