Description:
Antero, a speed skater, and Venla, a psychologist, are a modern, long-time unmarried couple in Finland. But their relatioship is in crisis: Venla wants them to finally marry and have a family. Antero is fine with marrying, but definitely does not want children, particularly as he believes it will interfere with his success in sports. Fearful of losing Venla, Antero proposes, but secretly, he also gets a vasectomy. Frustrated and angry-and determined to have a child-Venla concocts a plan to have an 'after hours' insemination at the fertility clinic where she works. But to her surprise, she begins to develop feelings for Satu, the sympathetic female doctor in on the scheme.

Rating:  - Delightful, Believable
The romance between the two women is fairly believable -- not too far-fetched. A lot of the craziness of the males surrounding them is a bit out there, though. There seemed to be a bit of difficulty creating realistic male characters. But, again, the women's romance was decently believable.
Rating:  - Charming Finns
I'm gonna have to disagree with some of the less than positive reviewers of this little gem. I found this movie charming, engaging and refreshing. Charming because of the two ladies, they clicked instantly and fell in love like grown ups. The live in boyfriend, Antero was portrayed fairly even though at the end he comes out looking like a jerk. But I think what makes movie unique in comparisson to some in peoples' listmanias, is that it isn't much about falling in love with the same sex and the societal and psychological angst that it brings, but rather it is about making choices and being with the one you love. The issue doesn't even come up, in fact it isn't even mentioned. Okay, so some of the scenes were a little contrived and cute, but I am willing to forgive all of that because at the end you come away satisfied with the movie. And Finnish movies are not that readily availabe so it's an added bonus, The last Finnish movie I saw was "Pathfinder" so isn't kinda rare to hear the beautiful Finnish language in the movies. Relax, don't over analyze this little gem. Enjoy! Oh, there's no DVD extras, Argghh!!!! I should drop a star.
Rating:  - A Subtitled Mish Mash
I'm a person who enjoys this type of film and yet found this one to be lacking in so many ways. The story line has whole a person could fly through and the conection between the two main characters was stiff and had very little impact. Recommend instead: Fingersmith, Bound or, Better Than Chocolate as the above three will not leave you wondering or disappointed.

The film is an excellent reflection of life, great lesbian film. Don't let this movie go unseen just because of the subtitles.
Rating: - Intriguing movie about the disintegration of a straight relationship
This movie is about a lovely Finnish woman named Venla, a psychologist at a fertility clinic, who has been with her boyfriend for 15 years. She has decided she now wants to have kids but he doesn't want any and instead says he wants to have her support them while he pursues his speed skating dreams. In this film, the boyfriend ends up doing several unethical actions to Venla to ensure that they never produce children, including slipping her a morning after pill in her champagne to ensure she isn't pregnant after a condom busts and then later on getting a vasectomy. He also lies and tells her he wants to have kids. At work Venla discusses all the trials of her relationship with a female coworker named Satu, the lab worker. Satu is a lesbian who seems to have given up having anyone in her life to love and has ended up in an unfulfilling relationship with a male next door neighbor just to alleviate her loneliness. About halfway through the film Venla decides to take drastic action in order to get pregnant and asks for the assistance of Satu, who cares deeply for Venla. When they are caught by the boss of the clinic, a number of surprising happenings occur, including both the women going bed together and being caught by the Venla's boyfriend. -- The cover of this DVD said this is an amusing film. I didn't find it amusing so much as gut-wrenching to watch as the male/female couple relationship as it crumbles.
